for me, it started with her (first?) hit song All I Wanna Do it was E V E R Y W H E R E ...  and I think it won the song of the year or something huge-ass grammy.  That saturation made it just too much for me and it colored a lot of what came after.  I do like My Favorite Mistake, though, and maybe a couple other songs by her.  I heard she wasn't so nice business-wise, but hey, she is successful and hopefully happy.  She's not bad looking, either.

I'll grant that her covers are subpar, and certainly AL wasn't impressed by her. However, overplayed or not, "All I Wanna Do", "Everyday Is A Winding Road", "There Goes The Neighborhood", "Steve McQueen" etc. I find enjoyable.

And actually, "The First Cut Is The Deepest" wasn't so bad IMHO.

You don't like her because she's promiscuous?  Is that limited to women performers, or do you have a problem with male pop stars who sleep around alot too?  Because your pickin's get mighty slim if that is so.  Or it's just a weird double-standard.

It's not promiscuity per se, but I get the impression she slept her way to a career (and yes, I realize that hardly makes her unique either). But I think a lot of women hate her because of her many hook-ups  -  "she got to fuck Eric Clapton *and* Lance Armstrong??"  - which was more what I was getting at.

Despite how much I hated 'All I Wanna Do' and 'Strong Enough', I gave her a pass because she had a long string of reliable tracks after.  Until 'The First Cut is the Deepest' which I hated and virtually everything she's released since.  For the record I like her version of 'Sweet Child O' Mine'.

I love the Keith Hampshire version of "First Cut..." that CKRU plays quite often. Here he is doing it about a dozen years ago -- with Lighthouse (!) backing him up, apparently.

KFOG LOVED "There Goes The Neighborhood" in early 1999 - it would have done well on the AAA chart if it had existed at the time. Sort of a fill-in between "My Favorite Mistake" and "Anything But Down". "Steve McQueen" was a bit more up-tempo than its predecessor, "Soak Up The Sun". Both were on her greatest hits collection.
