Gil Gross, ex-KGO'er and a FB friend of mine posted this:

You may have seen that George "Goober" Lindsey died the other day. In the LA Times obit there are two great quotes. Lindsey had played mostly villains in his career and was having a hard time figuring out "Goober." Andy Griffith, a brilliant actor (see Face In The Crowd) gave him one of the best directing guides I've ever heard: "Goober's the kind of guy that would go into a restaurant and say, 'This is great salt.' "

The other quote from Griffith is this: Noting that he had his last conversation with Lindsey a few days ago, Griffith said: "I am happy to say that as we found ourselves in our 80s, we were not afraid to say, 'I love you.' That was the last thing George and I had to say to each other. 'I love you.' " Sweet.
