9. The Flying Lizards -- Money (That's What I Want)
Do you guys like this? I found the joke wore thin ages ago.
ha, I thought it was just me. No, I don't really dig it. In the right context it might be fine, like English avant garde art rock theater from 1979, which is where it came from (I didn't know this offhand, just read up on the band/act/collaboration that produced it.) But think about what was happening when it hit the scene: disco was doing its last line, punk was getting big, Journey and Rush were just heating up commercially (so that's good) but overall this sounded pretty dang different, which counts for a lot. (I just read that Robert Fripp was part of the band at some point, but I don't think he was on 'Money').
If we didn't hear it like clockwork every year on KFOG's predictable Tax Day set, it might not be so bad.
