The Drive, week of 3/26/12
« on: March 26, 2012, 08:07:30 AM »
Mon 3/26/12: 1977

the usual usual, I'm guessing.

... and sure enuf we start with F.Mac and Kansas. LN and WOS, respectively.

The sky is burning. And so are my ears.

uber-LN: Queen. Sheesh.

BOSFRA Jackson Browne, "The Road".

BOS2 H&O and they rich bitch.

Cheeze for breakfast: VHM Styx, sailing ay-way.

whenever I hear the long intro to "Jet Airliner", I think it's Billy Joel's "Miami 2017" which is very similar. And I get excited because I'd much rather hear the rarely-heard BJ track.

Tue 3/27/12: 1981

Billy Squier - Lonely is the Night
Stevie Nicks & Tom Petty - Stop Draggin' My Heart Around
Peter Cetera - Livin' in the Limelight
Genesis - Man on the Corner
Point Blank - Nicole
Pat Benatar - Promises in the Dark
Greg Kihn - The Breakup Song (Don't Write 'Em)
Rolling Stones - Waiting on a Friend
Journey - Stone in Love
AC/DC - Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap

eeek. I'm never sorry to miss an '80s set on The Drive. Don't think I know that Point Blank song -- "Nicole"?  Anybody? Beuller?  so that's an ATBB but I'm guessing it's some horrid midwestern AOR atrocity. (ETA: worse yet they're from Texas -- bad ZZTop-meets-.38 Special crapola)

The Cetera is NTM as well.

It's a Drive/Sound staple for some reason. Pretty bad, it was Cetera trying to rock before he went all wimpy, but sadly that's not a plus.

Wed 3/28/12: 1967!

can't remember the last time I heard TWO Procol Harum songs in the same morning.  VHM "Whiter Shade".

Spencer Davis is a man, or so he says. I'll be the judge o' that, bub.

BOS Strawberry Alarm Clock; BOS2 Jimi; Jim Morrison is a 2-timer.

C-O-M... P-O-Z...

and speaking of sedatives: "Nights in White Satin"

LN: "Itchykoo Park". VHM the Monkees, despite my reservations about millionaire pop songwriters disparaging consumerism.

uber-LN2: "White Rabbit"

Procol Harum - A White Shade of Pale
Spencer Davis Group - I'm A Man
Strawberry Alarm Clock - Incense and Peppermints
Jimi Hendrix - Are You Experienced
Doors - Love Me Two Times
Aretha Franklin - Respect
Moody Blues - Nights in White Satin
Small Faces - Itchycoo Park
Monkees - Pleasant Valley Sunday
Jefferson Airplane - White Rabbit

Fri 3/30/12: The Doctor is IN!

Turn your head sideways and cough...

ooo -- the Drive have a new player!

"Good Lovin" -- nice start.  Ah, the "doctor" meme extends to artists too: Dr John's in the right place, then.

uber-BOS1 the Beatles, "Dr Robert", one of my fave rarities of theirs.

WOS UFO. Eeek.

BOS2 Steely Dan, "Doctor Wu"; Nilsson's doctor puts de lime in de coconut.

BOS3 a VH rarity "Somebody Get Me a Doctor".

DAY-um!  Macca's "Medicine Jar" gets a BOS4.  One of Bob's more enjoyable efforts in a while.  OTOH... coulda done without Dr Hook.

Most-obvious LN: "Doctor My Eyes"

Rascals - Good Lovin'
Dr. John - Right Place, Wrong Time
Beatles - Dr. Robert
UFO - Doctor Doctor
Steely Dan - Doctor Wu
Harry Nilsson - Coconut
Van Halen - Somebody Get Me a Doctor
Paul McCartney & Wings - Medicine Jar
Dr. Hook - The Cover of The Rolling Stone
Jackson Browne - Doctor My Eyes
