The lyricist for three Oscar-nominated songs was also known for her own confessional albums in the early 70s.

wow, I'd've never guessed she was THAT old. I have one of her LPs -- she got quite a bit of play on the old WNEW-FM in the '70s when they were free-form.  "Mary C Brown and the Hollywood Sign", "Lady with the Braid", "Obscene Phone call"... all wonderful songs.

and of course she co-wrote the theme from Valley of the Dolls.
