The Drive, week of 2/13/12
« on: February 13, 2012, 07:58:16 AM »
Mon 2/13/12: 1973

yay!

VHM DP and they woman from Toe-Kay-Oh: points for NOT being "Smoke on the Water".

Stevie gee-tar is a smoker and a toker.

Dude! Sweet! BOS "Little Willy" and his little willy.

VHM the jailer man and sailor Sam.  Proxy of GazWOS: Skynyrd. Ah said ex-CUSE!

Bob does his year-of-release rather than year-of-popularity thing with Orleans.  This always annoys me, even tho' I like the song.

BOS2 Zep.

The preachah and the teachah -- lawd! -- they a LN.

BOS3 Ringo with castanets; EJ's got electric boobs. or something. LN2.

Tue 2/14/12: Love, love, LOOOOOVE!

Bob salutes VD.

Freddie M: your gay best friend.

eek: Axl really does make this a set about VD.  Love is da drug, alright.

VHM VH, "Love walks in" -- this is the least-romantic Valentine's set ever (not counting Dave's "a dissenting opinion" sets which were unromantic on purpose)

well this is more like it: BOS1 the Troggs.

VHM Zep, giving you ALL of Percy's "love"... which is considerable.

BOS2 the Fab 4, "PS I Love You"

Foreigner's "Waiting For a Girl..." instead of "I want to Know What Love is?" That's just dumb, Bob.

OMFG: "San Jose's own" People! uber-BOS3 "I Love You"

Percy's love may be big but Rod's is immeasurable. Or so he says. And he's got urine in his heart.  BOS4.

Queen - You're My Best Friend
Guns n' Roses - Sweet Child Of Mine
Roxy Music - Love Is The Drug
Van Halen - Love Walks In
Troggs - Love Is All Around
Led Zeppelin - All My Love
Beatles - P.S. I Love You
Foreigner - Waiting For A Girl Like You
People! - I Love You
Rod Stewart - You're In My Heart (The Final Acclaim)

Love may in fact be the drug, but I wouldn't count on it curing that burning sensation.   ;)
Let's get right to it.

Wed 2/15/12: 1980

steeling myself for some serious LN/WOS action.

But I'm gobsmacked to hear Jackson Browne's "Hold on, Hold out" as the TOTHK. BOS1 and a welcome rarity.

Mick flirts with necrophilia; Walsh does it all nite and AC/DC shoot to thrill.

Seger spends too much time with the Iggles at Fire Lake, eating cake. For goodness sake!

WOS .38 Special.

NOOOOOOOOO!! uber-WOS2 Rush and those pesky SAYYYYYLES-mayun.

sheesh: the closest we get to "new wave" --- in a year flooded with the stuff -- is Split Enz. VHM, but really, Bob: too little too late.

Jackson Browne - Hold On Hold Out
Rolling Stones - She's So Cold
Joe Walsh - All Night Long
AC/DC - Shoot To Thrill
Bob Seger - Fire Lake
.38 Special - Rockin' Into The Night
Rush - The Spirit Of Radio
Genesis - Misunderstanding
Split Enz - I Got You
Alan Parsons Project - Games People Play

instant WOS: Grand Funk, some kind of not very wonderful.

always a BOS fo' mah bitch, Elton.

LN: "Already Gone"

BeachChicagoBoys wish you were here. VHM.

LN2: Supertramp.

BOS2 the Hollies, still one of the most gorgeous ballads of the '70s. Flawless production.

Buckwheat Crapton: mainline Florida, oh-TAY!

BOS3 H&O doing "She's Gone" in it's orig year of release; wish someone would play Tavares' version some morning.  BOS4 Stones, "Dance Li'l Sistah"

great song, but this lyric always cracks me up:

"...let the carbon and monoxide choke my thoughts away."

I guess they wrote this in the very early days of science, before we knew that the two compounds are actually one.    ;D

carbonite certainly choked Han Solo's thoughts away.
