The Drive, week of 11/7/11
« on: November 07, 2011, 08:03:15 AM »
Mon 11/7/11: 1972

Chicago have a dialogue with themselves. "I hope the President knows what he's into..." er, what?

Rod does a sequel; War wander the ghetto; Stones get a BOS1 for "All Down Da Line"

one for the "never again" list: the Doobs.

OMFG: BOS2 L&M "House at Pooh Corner", nicest surprise of the morning.

The Dan reel 'em in.

BOS3 and proxy of Geoff, ABB.

Joe Tex, "I Gotcha" BOS4 right here.

"Walk on the Wild Side" is close to being on the "never again" list, but at least it's the uncensored version, so VHM.

Chicago - Dialogue, Parts 1 & 2
Rod Stewart - You Wear It Well
War - The World Is a Ghetto
Rolling Stones - All Down the Line
Doobie Brothers - Listen To The Music
Loggins & Messina - House at Pooh Corner
Steely Dan - Reelin' In The Years
Allman Brothers Band - One Way Out
Joe Tex - I Gotcha
Lou Reed - Walk on the Wild Side

DUUUUUDE! 11-11-11 is Nigel Tufnel day! So you were close with the Spinal Tap guess.  I'd suggested that AL do a set of "songs you want to crank up to 11" but it looks like (as happens all-too-frequently) the Morning Show stole the idea.

nice!

speaking of 11:  here's a great clip from a movie called Moog, about Bob Moog, the inventor of the Moog synthsizer.

Start watching at 2:30

Rick Wakeman looks like he dropped right out of Spinal Tap and talks like it, too.  Eleven!

Brilliant. Yes, more than a passing resemblance to David St. Hubbins.

Full disclosure: First time I saw Wakeman in Yes, in the fall of '77, I thought I'd seen god.
Let's get right to it.

I saw him at Madison Sq Garden in '74 or '75 -- one of the great forgotten LPs of the '70s is his epic Journey to the Center of the Earth, which in retrospect is quite cheezy and Spinal Tap-y but which was HUGE on the NYC prog stations. I surely haven't heard anything from it on the radio in 35 years. Maybe I'll request something next '74 set.
