There's a lot I deeply dislike about Sheryl Crow and her music, but I have to say, reworking TTD's "Sign Your Name" in the Al Green mold was quite inspired:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3t3RHaDogHY&ob=av2e

I just wish it were a real singer pulling it off.

agreed.  So is Ms. 'ho f---king Timberlake now?  That Boardwalk station plays a cover that's more faithful to TTD's orig, no idea who does it.

Meanwhile, Band Name of the Week:

Rev. Bubba D Liverance & The Cornhole Prophets (!)

http://southernsoul.com/members/787/

Hmm, they sound a lot like Southside Johnny & the Asbury Jukes to my ears.

As for Crow, that would be quite the notch in the bedpost, but I've no idea.  Maybe she gets what she wants b/c she's been a reliable moneymaker for several years.

I heard an awful cover of Waterloo Sunset by David Bowie last night at Nordstrom Rack.  Some songs just need to be left alone, damnit!

Ha, this made me check it out: it totally sounds like department store music!

As much as I tried to resist jumping on the Gorillaz bandwagon, I've been listening to their latest album Plastic Beach a lot lately (and it's pretty dang good).
Here's a video clip of them performing on the Colbert Report, featuring Bobby Womack on lead vocals, Paul Simonon on bass and Mick Jones on guitar.

The song starts at 4:35 mins into it.

New Michael Jackson single released today
LOS ANGELES (AP) -- The first official single from Michael Jackson's upcoming new album has been released.  "Hold My Hand," a duet with Akon was released at 12:01 AM on Monday on the late singer's website and is available for sale via digital download.
According to Jackson's website, a handwritten note from the singer indicated he wished his first single on his next project to be the duet with Akon which they recorded together in 2007. An unfinished version of the song was leaked in 2008. Akon recently returned to the studio to put the finishing touches on the duet.
"The world was not ready to hear 'Hold My Hand' when it leaked a couple years ago. But its time has definitely come; now in its final state, it has become a beautiful, anthemic song. I'm so proud to have had the chance to work with Michael, one of my all time idols," Akon said in a statement on Jackson's website.
The late singer's album, "MICHAEL," will be released on December 14. Lenny Kravitz and 50 Cent are also featured.  To hear "Hold My Hand" click: http://breakingnews.michaeljackson.com

I'm assuming It's neither Beatle nor Hootie related?  Did Akon hold MJ's hand?

New to iTunes today: Beatles tunes
http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/10/11/16/the_beatles_catalog_comes_to_apples_itunes.html

from the WSJ:

Quote
People who have done business with [the Beatles] and its corporate entity, Apple Corps Ltd., describe a very slow-moving process in which the two surviving members, and the heirs of the other two, can take a long time to reach consensus.

The Beatles deal with iTunes was delayed in part by ongoing trademark litigation, the most recent round of which was resolved in 2007. The Beatles and iTunes have traded lawsuits since 1978, when the Beatles alleged that the computer maker, incorporated as Apple Computer in 1977, infringed on the band's trademark in the name and logo of Apple Corps. The lawsuit was settled in 1981 for an undisclosed sum, plus an agreement that the Cupertino, Calif., computer maker wouldn't compete in the music business.

The Beatles' record label, EMI Group Ltd., has been under financial strain following an ill-timed leveraged buyout by Terra Firma Capital Partners LP in 2007. If the iTunes tie-up generates significant cash advances or sales, it could delay breaches in the company's loan covenants. Terra Firma borrowed £2.74 billion (US $4.4 billion) from Citigroup Inc. to finance the deal, but has fallen into breach of those covenants, forcing it to add millions more to its equity position last year.

Even as recorded-music sales have plummeted, the Beatles have remained one of the most reliable franchises in the business. In 2009, 39 years after breaking up, they sold the third-highest number of albums of any act in the U.S., according to Nielsen SoundScan, with 3.3 million copies sold.

NTM, but apparently it was released on a "From the vaults" album in 1998: Tom Jones, delightfully retro:

Yes, its been a long and winding road to get them on iTunes.  I suppose since most interested fans already own all Beatles CDs, I imagine the iTunes offering might appeal to teens/20s who might like some Beatletunes on their portable devices.

Toronto electro-duo Crystal Castles may have an unlikely hit on their hands: a cover of Platinum Blonde's "Not in Love," the radio version featuring none other than Robert Smith of the Cure :o

Normally I'd say something like this would never get the time of day, but I got word that both Channel 92.3 and Live 105 added it!  :o
