A review of new CDs from Neil Young, Robert Plant, Eric Clapton
http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2010-09-29/neil-young-sneers-eric-clapton-dozes-robert-plant-has-a-ball-cd-reviews.html
I have the Neil CD. Gave it a full listen today. Some tracks are interesting , a few are good Neil tunes. I'll have to listen some more. I did get a taste of it when I saw him a few months ago doing Hitch hiker and others in Oakland. The feedback, $h!t is interesting.

Very cool: a "Best of Apple Records" CD that has all the interesting (non-Beatle) stuff they released, including Ronnie Spector's "Try Some Buy Some" and the Rhada Krishna Temple's "Govinda", both of which I've been looking for forever.

Wow: The latest from Len Price 3 (it happens to be Little Steven's "coolest song" this week) is Kinks-meet-Blur. I instantly love this one. "Mr Grey"

The Weepies, Be My Thrill: my roommate Andy turned me on to this.  Perfect Pop Singles.  I haven't heard all of it yet, but it might become my #2 album of the year (behind Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings).

Any of you guys listen to enough new music to still compile year-end Top 10s?  I don't anymore, alas.

Nor I. These days I'm lucky if I buy 10 newly released CDs in a year.
Let's get right to it.

Went to the sold out Best Coast show at GAMH on Tuesday, and they were...meh.

The opening act knocked my socks off though!  A local band called Sonny and the Sunsets...check 'em out!

NTM courtesy of KPOO: Irma Thomas' terrific 1964 cover of "Breakaway", a Jackie DeShannon compo that was an early Dusty Springfield hit, revived in the '80s by Tracey Ullman... and Irma's version was a B-side!

There's a lot I deeply dislike about Sheryl Crow and her music, but I have to say, reworking TTD's "Sign Your Name" in the Al Green mold was quite inspired:

I just wish it were a real singer pulling it off.

agreed.  So is Ms. 'ho f---king Timberlake now?  That Boardwalk station plays a cover that's more faithful to TTD's orig, no idea who does it.
