I didn't catch who it was, but someone was on KFOG at 12:50am EST covering Paul Simon's "One Man's Ceiling Is Another Man's Floor."

I caught the last couple minutes of it as well--it was unmistakeable what it was, but I didn't hear any vocals, just the instrumental part at the end.
Let's get right to it.

I couldn't find that anywhere on the "New Releases" page of the KFOG website... but there are many songs listed there that they rarely-if-ever play.

Each of the last two nights driving home I have heard Big Rick play the first single from Eddie Vedder's Into The Wild sndtrk, which is a cover of a really cool song called "Hard Sun" by an obscure band called Indio that came out when I was in grad school (89/90).  I had the CD, and loved that track, but it was later among those stolen by my former buddy & colleague Dan Gomes (RIH Dan!).

Anyway I hadn't heard the song for at least 15 years and then heard Eddie Vedder covering it & thought Wow!  How cool is that!  But each time Big Rick plays it he talks endlessly about how Sean Penn personally asked Eddie V. to write all these tracks for his film and here's the first one off the record and it's a really cool song, etc.  But he apparently doesn't realize that Vedder didn't write it.

Also, I heard something by a band called VHS Or Beta last night that I really liked.  Anyone heard either of these yet?

Loved "Can't Believe a Single Word," if that's the one you're thinking of.

I saw Into the Wild this weekend -- beautifully made (probably Penn's best directing job yet), but I had a LOT of issues with it. Not the least of which was Vedder's droning voice singing too many songs.

Dave played it this morning; turns out it's Robben Ford & Susan Tedeschi.

They've actually got kind of an interesting history:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sharon_Jones_%26_The_Dap-Kings

"Many people who bought the early records were unsure that they were modern recordings as recording dates were deliberately omitted from the labels and were often marketed as being released in the nineteen seventies."

I thought DAP was that stuff you use to caulk your shower. So maybe they're plumbers?

Shelby Lynne's forthcoming album is almost all Dusty Springfield covers:

Color me more than intrigued.

Wow...

Considering her big breakthru CD was called (by some) a latter-day Dusty in Memphis this is very exciting.  Can't wait to hear it.

Sharon Jones et al?  Oh yeah, heard them last year up at Bumbershoot.  Got some video and photos.  Sorry I didn't hype them up more to y'all back then.

She, and they, are a force to be reckoned with.  Amazing live show.  And her first two albums, Dap-Dippin' w/ SJATDK and Naturally are also great.  Will need to check out the new stuff.
