Alison Krauss and Robert Plant have made an album together???  It's getting KFOG play, apparently.

Benson treated us to their cover of the Everly's "Gone, Gone, Gone" this morning, and it was COOOOL!!

PercyGrass!

"Big Log, Blue Grass."

Meantime, the new Broooce single, "Radio Nowhere," is a free giveaway on iTunes this week.  Not bad: strong refrain, but his voice doesn't seem 100% there.

It's certainly everywhere -- Little Steven has it in rotation (gee, wonder why?) and it's on KFOG, The Peak, and even CG.

Holy shit: I'm listening to a new single, "Put a Little Umph in It," by Jagged Edge f/ Ashanti, and I'm pretty sure it's about a guy asking his girlfriend to squeeze his nuts.  I'm really afraid to listen to it again to be sure.

Begging for Bumbershoot contest votes.

i gave you a couple of votes. good luck!!

Sorry, I forgot to send a follow up to everyone.

> We didn't win the grand prize, or even one of the 3 first prizes.
> But we *did* get chosen as one of five Editor's Choices, which got
> us two free single-day tickets, which we'll probably be flipping
> at the gate, since we've already purchased 3-day tickets.

Overall the festival was super-fun.  So much to see, we barely
caught a fraction of the acts.  Pushing Noah around in his stroller
made it a little harder, but he was a trooper.  And even without a
kid, it's literally impossible to see everything.  There are 7 music
stages that almost always have somebody playing, 3 comedy stages,
a couple of performing arts stages, and a literary stage.  Also, a
mini film festival and free rides.  It's pretty crazy.

I'm uploading photos now:  http://darryl.phanfare.com/album/404453

--Darryl

P.S.  Sold the single-day tickets we won for $60!  Sold our mainstage
passes for Panic!  At The Disco for $10!  Sold our mainstage passes
for Wu-Tang Clan for $20!

ya beat me to it, but I was equally amazed. Don't think they've had a Prince song in their regular rotation since When Doves Cry went off the charts. (But I wish they'd pick up that My Guitar (unsure of exact title) tune that Mike Sweeney played a time or two when he still had the Friday night Rock Show on CG.)
Let's get right to it.

indeed -- same CD, Planet Earth. CG gave that quite a bit of play, actually. The song KFOG played is actually titled "The One U Wanna C", natch.

I have a love/hate relationship with "New Music Thursdays", or "New Music Ghetto" as I sometimes refer to it.

KFOG has debuted so many great artists/songs on Thursdays, only to never have them heard from again.  It really depresses me come a few days later.

Here's a note I just sent to Kelly Ransford (music director), as well as old kfog@kfog.com bucket and Big Rick too:

Quote
To: Kelly.Ransford@cumulus.com, kfog@kfog.com, rick@bigrick.fm
Subject: New Music Rocks!

Please please *PLEASE* play these songs outside of Thursday:

Cake - War Pigs
VHS or Beta - I Can't Believe a Single Word
Erin Barielles - Love Song

Actually, I've been enjoying pretty much everything Big Rick has been
playing for the past couple of hours.  Maybe that's why the phone
lines are tied up?

I realize now that I really really love Thursdays because I get to
hear stuff I never hear the rest of the week.  Now if you just spread
them out to the other days life would be *great*.

In other news, does anybody besides me think that this Spoon track "Underdog, The" sounds like a helluva lot like Billy Joel's "Only The Good Die Young"?

Submitted for your consideration:

- Spoon samples on Amazon
- Billy Joel samples on Amazon

I don't know about Only The Underdog Dies Young, but I'm with you on the VHS or Beta song - fine stuff.

Here's some songs which I would be happy to see KFOG drop from rotation to fit in some new songs:

John Mellencamp - Small Town
Billy Idol - White Wedding
Tom Petty - Mary Jane's Last Dance
B-52s - Love Shack

Any others?

OMG -- "Rocket Man". I swear I hear it 3 or 4 times a week -- and I don't listen that much outside of 10@10.

Hey, my in-laws gave my son this crazy toy:

It looks like a gun, and when you pull the trigger:
- a basketball spins to reveal a little player inside
- it plays some really familiar song that I can't remember

But the kicker is, it has a whistle at the end of the barrel, so if you want to play it, you have to stick the gun in your mouth.

Ridiculous.  But the fact that I can't ID the song drives me crazy.  Please help!

I'm sorry, but that's just f***in' sick.

Oh, and I watched the video--not a clue as to the song, but it does sound familiar.
