Shawn Mullins, VHM I guess.  I agree that it's overexposed, but it could still be a good 10@10 song as long as we're not full of overexposed Alice-types (& for today, we're so far so good).  In 1998 it was so different than everything else on pop.

completely unnecessary: Dennis Hopper, Bob Seger and Sonny & Cher, which is in way-too-often regular rotation.... much as I liked the song in '98.

This one's a pretty big sledgehammer for me, as it was in heavy rotation the week I moved to SF in October of '98, and I was listening to the radio a lot as the CDs didn't get unpacked for a couple of weeks. And MP3s didn't really exist in '98. :)

Yes, I can completely see that.  Plus, some good fiddle in this.  It's hard to get good violin in pop music.
