15 Sept 2011: It's... 1992!
« on: September 14, 2011, 07:58:47 PM »
I requested everyone's favorite Dolbymoreytrina, which we've only gotten once in the AL era because now that she's supposed to only play songs that got significant play before, it might actually get played again.  As well as "Something Good" by Utah Saints and "Love to Hate You" by Erasure, which probably will not get played.

It's one of those Sledgehammery years for me, so forgive me if I went a little nutso on the request line.  (Not that she'd play any of these, BUT...)

Manic Street Preachers, Sonic Youth, Pavement, PJ Harvey, Ride, The Sundays and last, but not least, The Lightning Seeds, "The Life of Reilly" (Paging Swellegant!).  Methinks AL is Lightning Seeded out since all these FB folks were hatin' on "Pure".

D'oh! Just made my five requests, but I'll +1 Lightning Seeds.

A year that most needs pop and soul probably won't feature any. Sandra R actually requested 2 of mine before I did -- Prince and Charles & Eddie.

BTW tomorrow is KFOG's official 29th birthday -- a set to celebrate on 10@10? (AL did '82 last week so please, no Stray Cats).

ETA: I looked at KFOG's Wiki page and it's oddly outdated, still referencing Kaboom as an annual event and of course no mention of the recent format tweak.  And most strage of all: no mention of 10@10 under "programming".

Actually, the 1982 set was two weeks ago, so yeah, it could very be as such tomorrow. We've had 00s, 90s, 80s and 70s so far this week.

PG, Steam. This song works much better as part of the whole album. I suggested something more obscure like Love to be Loved.

VHM Sophie B Hawkins, despite being overplayed on the radio in general.

Oooh! A bustout, methinks.

The weird thing about that song is that Bay Area radio essentially ignored it at the time, even though it reached the pop Top five.

We are talking about "Damn! I Wish I Was Your Lover", right?

Exactly what I feared from a 1992 set.
