« on: August 15, 2011, 07:46:33 AM »
Mon 8/15/11: 1979

cruel to start with "Cruel", Bob. Don't do me like that, indeed.

Greetings (and BOS) Tim the Enchanter! Even tho ...Holy Grail came out in '75.

VHM Poco's "Heart of the Night"; WOS STYX, on borrowed time

BOS2 "London Calling"; VHM Ms Benatar.

Johnny Rotten! Rotten Johnny! BOS3 Neil and the less-often-heard "Hey Hey My My (Into the Black)"

No time, Toulouse!

Sorry, BadCo: my "RnR Fantasy" involves Henry Rollins and a tub of CoolWhip.

Nick Lowe - Cruel To Be Kind
Tom Petty - Don't Do Me Like That
Poco - Heart Of The Night
Styx - Borrowed Time
Clash - London Calling
Pat Benatar - Heartbreaker
Neil Young - Hey Hey My My
Tarney-Spencer Band - No Time To Lose
Bad Company - Rock'n Roll Fantasy
Supertramp - Gone Hollywood

Tue 8/16/11: OHWs!

and before the set even starts they're playing Tommy Tutone.

...but we kick off with Pilot's "Magic". Oh Ho Ho!

It is a damn shame David Essex is a OHW in the US. He put out some wonderful pop singles (all UK hits) after "Rock On".

Quote
3 David Essex Rock On Aug 1973
7 David Essex Lamplight Nov 1973
32 David Essex America May 1974
1 David Essex Gonna Make You A Star Oct 1974
7 David Essex Stardust Dec 1974
5 David Essex Rolling Stone Jul 1975
1 David Essex Hold Me Close Sep 1975
13 David Essex If I Could Dec 1975
24 David Essex City Lights Mar 1976
24 David Essex Coming Home Oct 1976
23 David Essex Cool Out Tonight Sep 1977
3 David Essex Oh What A Circus Aug 1978
32 David Essex Imperial Wizard Mar 1979
4 David Essex Silver Dream Machine Apr 1980
13 David Essex Me And My Girl (Night-Clubbing) Jun 1982
2 David Essex A Winter's Tale Dec 1982
8 David Essex Tahiti Aug 1983
29 David Essex Falling Angels Riding (Mutiny) Feb 1985
38 David Essex & Catherine Zeta Jones True Love Ways Nov 1994

A duet with CZJ??  my stars!

AAAACK! Blind Melon gets a OHW WOS.

VHM Marc Almond's love of taint; one(HW) for the never-need-to-hear-again list: Mungo Jerry.

Here in my car, I am so overplayed.

BOS Edison Lighthouse, nicest surprise of set and one of 4 hits Tony Burrows sang on in 1970. (per Wiki: "In February 1970, he became the first [and still the only] person to appear on BBC Television's Top of the Pops fronting three different acts in one show: Edison Lighthouse [who were number one that week], White Plains, and Brotherhood of Man." He also sang with the Pipkins.)

WOS2 Autograph. power shlock is right, TC.

BOS2 Chase, gettin' it AWN!

OMFG! kudos to Bob for playing Frida. Phil Collins' peak as a drummer. BOS3.

This was a much better (and more varied) assortment than I was expecting.

Pilot - Magic
David Essex - Rock On
Blind Mellon - No Rain
Soft Cell - Tainted Love
Mungo Jerry - In The Summertime
Gary Numan - Cars
Edison Lighthouse - Love Grows Where My Rosemary Goes
Autograph - Turn Up The Radio
Chase - Get It On
Frida - I Know There's Something Going On

ETA: Bob commented that "the oldest songs we played got the most votes" (Edison Lighthouse won BOS).

wow, Autograph sounds like a lot of power shlock bands of the era, but Turn Up The Radio has that irresistible hook that makes me want to turn up the online player volume control, bitches!

Wed 8/17/11: 1986

*shudder*

aaack! WOS1 Boston, "Amanda"

Bring me a higher 'trina.  And a pepperoni pizza while yer at it.

BOS REM covering the Clique.

"Wild Wild Life" would rate a VHM and possibly a BOS if KFOG wasn't playing it 27 times a week.  You can call Paul Simon 'Trina.

uber-BOS2 live Brooooce, "Because the Night".

VHM Bon Jovi's hair. Even better than Catherine Oxenberg's!

Red rain: the energy drink that tastes like Peter Gabriel! Yum!

Synths-a-plenty: WOS2 Van Hagar.  And if I had Huey Lewis', um, endowment, I'd feel pretty hip too.

Boston - Amanda
Steve Winwood - Higher Love
R.E.M. - Superman
Talking Heads - Wild Wild Life
Paul Simon - You Can Call Me Al
Bruce Springsteen - Because The Night
Bon Jovi - Living On A Prayer
Peter Gabriel - Red Rain
Van Halen - Dreams
Huey Lewis & The News - Hip To Be Square

Thur 8/18/11: 1974

whatevs gets ya thru a Bob-in-the-'70s set.

Chicago's "Call On Me" would be quite a treat had I not just heard it on Casey's Aug '74 set this wknd.

VHM Ms Ronstadt. BOS the Dan, logically.

BOS2 EJ, that bitch.

ooo! BOS3 the mighty 'berries, looking for a "Hit Record".

OMFG! Kiki's got the music in her. And possibly a vibrator. BOS4 -- Bob's best, most pop-a-riffic set in a while.

John Lennon - Whatever Gets You Through The Night
Chicago - Call On Me
The Who - Long Live Rock
Linda Ronstadt - You're No Good
Bad Company - Ready For Love
Steely Dan - Pretzel Logic
Elton John - The Bitch Is Back
Electric Light Orchestra - Can't Get It Out Of My Head
Raspberries - Overnight Sensation
Kiki Dee - I've Got The Music In Me

Fri 8/19/11: 1981

no expectations.

aaack! LoverSagaBoy, "Turn Me On The Loose." WOS1.

eeek! WOS2 .38 Special, "Fantasy Girl".

yeesh: Billy Squier.

sheesh: Henley & the Goat.

NOOOOOOOOO! WOS3 Rush, "Limelight". Bob's worst set in ages.

I give up: Genesis has no reply.

Jeezus H Christ on a stick! Rush *AND* Triumph?? WOS4 and this may be Bob's worst 10@10 evah.

man, talk about going out of your way to do all-crappy-AOR-fest.  Live LPs are almost always a cheat in this context but Seger's "Old Time RnR" re-do is about as unnecessary as it gets.

and we climax with Foreigner's "Juke Box Hero", which is like Cole Porter compared to what's gone before. Easily one of the worst 10@10s I've ever heard on any station.

Saga - On The Loose
Police - Secret Journey
.38 Special - Fantasy Girl
Billy Squier - My Kinda Lover
Stevie Nicks - Leather And Lace
Rush - Limelight
Genesis - No Reply At All
Triumph - Fight The Good Fight
Bob Seger - Old Time Rock'n Roll (live)
Foreigner - Juke Box Hero
