The Drive, week of 8/8/11
« on: August 08, 2011, 08:07:55 AM »
Mon 8/8/11: 1973

The ushers are sniffing eau de cologne. Hope I'm not magically bored.

Styx's "Lady" in the year of actual release; DP meet a woman from Tokyo.

BOS1 the Mighty Zep; BOS2 F.Mac.

"ah said 'excuse'..." Skynyrd meet LindaLou and find themselves in trouble.

BOS a Steve Miller rarity, "sha-ba-da-doo-ma-ma-ma ma".

unavoidable in '73: the Floyd. VHM Edgar Winter who looks really weird on that phone commercial. Macca hears the major was a lady.

Who - 5:15
Styx - Lady
Deep Purple - Woman From Tokyo
Led Zeppelin - Over The Hills And Far Away
Fleetwood Mac - Hypnotized
Lynyrd Skynyrd - Gimme Three Steps
Steve Miller - Shu Ba Da Du Ma Ma Ma Ma
Pink Floyd - Us And Them
Edgar Winter - Frankenstein
Paul McCartney - Jet

damn, that transition from the smooth stylings of Bob Welch-led Fleetwood Mac into Lynnrd Skynnrd's Gimme Three Chords Steps was jarring.  I would rather have stayed hypnotized.

Idea for a set: bar room fights/brawls/tangles with the law:

Gimme Three Steps - Skynnrd
Long Cool Woman (In A Black Dress) - Hollies
Bad Bad Leroy Brown - Jim Croce

apparently there's a song called "Bar Room Brawl" by Straight Line Stitch:

VHM the orig True Grit -- wish Bob'd played Glen Campbell instead of Dylan's "Lay 'Trina Lay"

Percy's still burnin': BOS3 "Whole Lotta Love". He wants to be mah back-door man!

Neil Young - The Loner

Thur 8/11/11: 1980

OK, Bob... surprise me with something. Anything.

Seger do respect her butt!  VHM

"she's... so fuck-ing lame", er I mean "Jeux sans Front-ee-air"!

any way you WOS it: Journey. They may hasten my Departure, but it'll be on a "Train in Vain".

BJ may be right -- maybe he *is* insane.

AC/DC get knocked out by American knockers, er, thighs.

BOS JCM-before-the-M, "Ain't Even Done Deciding What My Name Is"

Pete wants to bite and kiss you, boyz. And NOBODY thought that was the slightest bit gay in 1980??

A Crazy Little Queen Called Freddie.

Mick goes all necro on yo' (cold) ass. VHM.

Bob Seger - Her Strut
Peter Gabriel - Games Without Frontiers
Journey - Any Way You Want It
Clash - Train In Vain
Billy Joel - You May Be Right

Still Bill is still... uh... Bill.  And Carlos is still... The HOSE!  But he ain't got nobody to distend on.

Mmmmmmmm... purple flowers....

I'll take non-holiday songs that mention Christmas for $1000, Elton.  BOS1 "Levon".

I heart Badfinger but "Day After Day" could use a 6-month moratorium.

OMFG! uber-BOS2 Alice C, "Undah Mah Wheels", honey!

awww... another dog song. BOS3 NGDB, bojanglin'.

Sorry, Bob, "Maggie May" -- even with the acoustic intro -- is utterly unnecessary this morning. or any other morning.

Proxy of GazWOS: Dave Edmunds. Bob's played this in both '70 and '71.

Bill Withers - Ain't No Sunshine
Santana - No One To Depend On
Tommy James - Draggin' The Line
Elton John - Levon
