1 July 2011: a "classic" from... 1978

I'm guessing we might get some theme set or other today. Anything less than compelling and I'm sticking with 1340 The Boardwalk.

I'm here, feeling grumpy about today's global news.  What's the URL for 1340 the Boardwalk?

We played Eddie Money's "Two Tickets to Paradise" in the Stanford Band. The tenor sax part was called "Two Thickets of Pubic Lice".  Ahhh, memories.

jeez, except for "Faraway Eyes" this set is quite miss-able. 1340 spinning candi Staton's FAB cover of "Suspicious Minds" as we speak. No contest.

Just headed there.  Hearing what sounds like Candi Staton doing "Suspicious Minds."

Happy weekend, all.

Scroll further down, there's a link to "broadcastmonsters.com" that works.  I had the same problem.

A great cover and the only one of her hits that ISN'T on the otherwise-stellar anthol I bought earlier this year.

For you 1340 newbies:  this is the 2nd hour of a 2-hour "all request lunchtime" show they do each weekday. The jock, John Dixon, a very personable and knowledgeable guy, is the only live jock on the station; they're automated the rest of the day. And (oddly, for a station whose core demo is black) they run Imus in the Morning. But musically they're great, casting a WIDE net as far as their definition of "beach music".  They've become one of my go-to streams.

Just heard the commercial on 1340 for that salon -- they have a hairstylist named "Butch"?? Seriously?? oh girlfriend, puh-LEEZE!

ETA: damn, that Etta James cover of "Blowin in the Wind" was NTM and quite fine.

I'm guessing AL returns Tuesday (when I have a 10am meeting, naturally) and that Mon might be one of the "American" theme sets she did a year or 2 ago.

While nothing this week was awful (tho' '89 was borderline), these "classics" seemed deliberately chosen for their homogeniousness -- think of all the really spectacular sets AL has done in the last 2 years that made us say "that's a keeper!" and "anyone recording this one?"... none of these were those.
