I believe either 1975 or 1974 holds the record for most #1 hits in a calendar year (there was I think a stretch of 12 weeks with 12 different #1s).

BOS for "Venus and Mars/Rock Show".  I like the Wings Over America version better, but then that's what I grew up listening to.
