21 May 2011: it's... the end of the world?
« on: April 25, 2011, 12:52:28 PM »
A similar thread on the radio-info message board made me think we should lobby AL for an "end of the world" set for the day when those Family Radio wackos say the world will end (yeah, the 21st is a Saturday, so I guess Friday the 20th will be fine.)

REM, "It's the End of the World..."
Skeeter Davis, "End of the World"
Boz Scaggs, "It's Over"
David Ruffin, "My Whole World Ended"

etc etc
You spin me right 'round, baby, right 'round

And of course, Barry McGuire's "The Eve Of Destruction". Would that be a Katrina for this set? Too obvious.

No, it would be perfect, I think.

Apocalypse Update: messaged AL about the possible Judgement day set and sadly she'll be on vacay (leaves tomo'w and back on-air Wed 5/25). Headed for a wedding in Vegas, presumably followed by a hangover. She's bummed at missing both the End Of the World set and Dylan's 70th bithday on Tues.  We'll be getting "classics", naturally.

Las Vegas: What better place to be when the world ends.

Talking Heads - Heaven
Mary Hopkin - Those Were the Days
Doris Day - Que Sera Sera
Ozzy - Crazy Train
KISS - Detroit Rock City (" I gotta laugh 'cause I know I'm gonna die!  Why?!")
...anything by Type O Negative, even though they were a happy band, deep down. After all, they covered Summer Breeze by Arts & Crafts and Cinnamon Girl by Neil.
