10 Feb 2011: it's... 1979!
« on: February 09, 2011, 07:25:55 PM »
When was the last time we Did the Rock? Stimulating, stimulating!

Aside to Sundaygal: AL tipped the year with a gif of Eat to the Beat's cover art, so chances are good we'll hear some of your namesake's band.

Meanwhile, Fogheads are requesting Katrinas a-plenty: the Car, the Police, and would you believe The Logical Song? Not to mention Boney M! Oh, the humanity...

Indeed, Fogheads make me weep for our future.

I couldn't decide between disco and New Wave, but figured the latter was more in AL's wheelhouse, so:

XTC, "Ten Feet Tall"
Shoes, "Too Late"
and anything from Rachel Sweet's Fool Around.

I have to admit that I'd love to hear Boney M on 10@10. Has that happened yet?

Not in the Morey era, and certainly not since AL took over.  And since I consider Boney M one of the worst groups in recorded history, I hope we keep that record intact. ;)

They're a bit of a personal sledgehammer, I'll admit. To each their own.

The thing is, most Americans only know "Rivers of Babylon" and (maybe) "Mary's Boy Child" which are, being covers, at least bearable. The rest of their output -- 14 Top 40 hits in the UK! -- is some of the most execrable Eurotrash disco ever, like "Ma Baker", their ode to Ma Barker, whose name they couldn't be bothered to spell correctly, and the hideous "Rasputin"  ("Rah-Rah-Rah-spew-teen"). Truly one HFH after another. Absolute dreck.

Best rhyme of set: "restaurant / debutante."  And oh, that all-over-the-map drumming.  BOS Blondie.
“The choir of children sing their song.  They've practiced all year long.  Ding dong.  Ding dong.  Ding dong.”

VHM "Cool For Cats"

I didn't know there was a l-o-n-g version - I think my version on the singles CD was missing that instrumental part?

Best movie line of set: the Muppet Movie and Hare Krishna.

Worst line of set: "on a sea in an ocean of emotion"
