RIP J. Paul Getty III, 54
« on: February 08, 2011, 06:42:39 AM »
J. Paul Getty III, of the oil dynasty family, was kidnapped in Italy in 1973. The kidnappers severed his ear and sent it to Getty's father and grandfather as proof. His grandfather then paid $2.2 million. In 1981 he was incapacitated by a stroke.  He died in England after a long illness.

I once had a Getty visit my guitar shop for a potential sale that never happened.  It was one who lived in SF at the time (early 90's).  Is it the same guy?

I seem to remember there was a Billy Getty that lived in SF and was a socialite. He may still, for all I know.
Let's get right to it.

I think Billy is Gordon Getty's son, and the one that just died is Gordon's brother (and Billy's uncle)

btw Billy and his brother Peter blogged a bit for sfgate.  they seem like they have realistic and healthy attitudes about their family circum$tances, but the commenters on sfgate, as usual, were pretty ruthless towards them:
