8 Feb 2010: it's... 1983
« on: February 07, 2011, 06:33:59 PM »
someone already requested "Every Breath You Take". 'cause, y'know, no radio stations ever play that one anymore. Ditto "Owner of a Lonely Heart" and "Mr Roboto", also requested. *sigh*

I've asked for

OMD, "Locomotion"
Belle Stars "Sign of the Times"
Culture Club "I'll Tumble 4 Ya"

and since I have a 10am meeting tomorrow, AL will probably play all 3.

ETA: AL commented on FB that she doesn't have a copy of the Belle Stars tune.  :'(

OMG: the same person who made the above request also requested "The Boys are Back in Town" by 'Thin Lizzie'. Unclear on the concept?

Not willing to give up my copy of the Belle Stars LP, but will look for a copy and gift it to her on behalf of us!    :)

I can't believe KFOG doesn't have a copy -- the song appears on a half-dozen "New Wave Hits of the '80s" compilations.

heard songs 1 & 2 in the car, missed Seger, but just in time for R.E.M.

early BOS for HL&tN, really one of the cleverer and catchier songs of the early 80s, and according to legend one in which the artist had a HUGE argument that they finally won about the "pro-drug nature" of the song.  Mgmt couldn't understand that the lengthy list of side-effects was NOT an endorsement of drug use, and they wanted to give away the punchline in the song title, a la "I Want A New Drug Called Love".  Props to Huey for winning that argument.

overall BOS to "Talk About The Passion".  Murmur was and remains one of my 'Desert Island Discs', along with UB40's Labour Of Love and U2's War, all of which I bought on the same day at the Tower Records in the U District in Seattle.

actually, as much as I love ZZ Top, "TV Dinners" is a WOS & guilty displeasure for me.

but that was my favorite SRV song & here comes my favorite Percy song.

KISW in Seattle has a live recording of this song that they used to play, with an extended intro that, other than the baseline, did not indicate what song was coming, and it TOTALLY ROCKS.  Unfortunately I lost my compilation tape that included it.

Gap Band - Outstanding
BOS'sing this!
Nothing else yet I've been too thrilled yet, individually at least, although the set as an entity hasn't been half bad.
