The Drive, week of 1/17/11
« on: January 17, 2011, 07:58:54 AM »
Mon 1/17/11:1968

No MLK set here, tho' Bob has done one the last couple of years. but '68 means MLK shooting clips, one would suppose.

BOS Neil, "Sugar Mountain".

BOS2/proxy of geoff: Chambers Bros, "Time Has Come Today"

BOS3 "Harper Valley PTA"! Sock it to 'em!

Timothy Leary's dead again.  BOS4 Moodies.

BOS5 Beatles (yay) "Dear Prudence". This is like a Dave set with a bit of AL sprinkled on top.

"Alright"-y now: VHM Traffic

BOS6 "Stormy", sounding lovely on a foggy SF morn.

least necessary: "Born to be a 'Trina" -- another for the I-never-need-to-hear-this-song-again list.

and yet another: the Band take a load off yo' fanny.

Deep Purple - Hush
Neil Young - Sugar Mountain
Chambers Bros - Time Has Come Today
Jeannie C. Riley - Harper Valley P.T.A.
Moody Blues - Legend of a Mind
Beatles - Dear Prudence
Traffic - Feeling Alright
Classics IV - Stormy
Steppenwolf - Born to Be Wild
The Band - The Weight

LOL!

I was always puzzled by "do ya do ya want my face? I need it!"

BOS Cheap Trick's "Oh caroline" which may be a bustout for this week's list.

Skynyrd's got that right -- and I've got the right to change the station.

Close Encounters --> "Point of KNOW Return". Heh.  VHM the segue; WOS Kansas

uber-BOS2 Mr Loaf, offering his throat to the wolf with the red roses. "ah bet you say that to all the boys..."

Lindsay lays his goat down in the tall grass and does his stuff.

The line worked better in Ace Frehley's mid-'80s cover.  (Last line of stanza: "Do ya, do ya want the ACE?")

BOS "You Took the Words Right Out of My Mouth," which (TANC) I just watched on YouTube the other day.

Meanwhile, Lindsay goes off to the tall grass to do his stuff.  He seems like the kind who wouldn't share.

Fri 1/21/11: 1969!

there's a godness on a mountaintop. and Cream says goodbye with "Badge". VHM.

Well tweedle-ee-dee and tweedle-ee-dumb: Rare Earth are about to come. Er, eww.  And Percy's got a whole LOTTA love. No kidding. BOS. Got this LP (on cassette!) for Xmas that year.

The head Shondell tries some "Persuasion", but I ain't buyin' the Jeezus thing, TJ.  Lovely song anyway.

For the 2nd thime this morning (KFOG played it at 5:30) Mr Mojo Risin' gets Stronger Than Dirt! Those "white knight" commercials were quite popular in the south, I hear.

Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-HAH! BOS2 "Laughing"

Tommy's got you sussed -- he knows where to put the cork!

Red Sox Nation awake! fire up the karaoke for "Sweet Caroline". BOS3 for one of the most glorious pop singles of the decade.

TANC: was listening to a Vin Scelsa show yesterday and he played "Country Honk" followed by Ike & Tina's live "Honky Tonk Women" -- here comes the Stones orig.  BOS4. But is it "ah laid a divorcee..." or "a lady divorcee"?

Shocking Blue - Venus
Cream - Badge
Rare Earth - Get Ready
Led Zeppelin - Whole Lotta Love
Tommy James/Shondells - Crystal Blue Persuasion
Doors - Touch Me
Guess Who - Laughing
Who - We're Not Gonna Take It
Neil Diamond - Sweet Caroline
Rolling Stones - Honky Tonk Woman
