8 Dec 2010: It's... 1980 (I think)
« on: December 07, 2010, 07:01:00 PM »
Our FB pal, Scott Fisher asked AL if she was going to do a John Lennon tribute set to mark the 30th anniversary of his murder.  She diplomatically replied that she "doesn't want to dwell on the sad side of things" and is planning on a 1980 set instead.

Well, good for AL! (tho' I half-expected her to rerun the John's birthday set, since she'll be up late tonite at the concert).

Not surprised by that--AL seems to like to lean on the positive side of things, and I can't fault her for that.

That said, Dave did do an "Anniversary of John's Death" set four years ago, although he led with a disclaimer that he normally did not do "death" sets. It went thusly:

12/08/2006 - John Lennon

1.  - Imagine
2.  - Across the Universe
3.  - Love
4.  - #9 Dream
5.  - Ballad of John & Yoko
6.  - Beautiful Boy
7.  - Because
8.  - Starting Over
9.  - In My Life (BEST OF SET!!)
10.  - Happy Xmas (War is Over)

Bonus: Crippled Inside

Isn't Scott Fisher the guy who's always trying to hit AL?

Agreed on her general positiveness, though. It would be hysterical if for April Fool's, she'd play a list of the most depressing hits ever.

The morning show is paying tribute today, so any Double Fantasy track AL chooses has probably already been played by Webster.

BOS for Airplane and the great Leslie Nielsen.  One of my favorite movies, I'm not ashamed to say.

the Blues Brothers head to "Funkytown". At least we didn't actually hear a Blues Bros tune.  Lipps, Inc = lip-synch! Get it??

It's an embarrassment of riches for 1980 movies with Blues Brothers making an appearance.  I watched this with my family recently too.  Kids love it.  "This is glue.  Strong stuff."

TANC: the Kings, "Switchin' to Glide". BOS4

Me and Zero request you in the Mercedes!

(TANC because I heard a commercial on that Canadian station Sunday for a concert they were doing; I didn't know they were still together)
