18 Nov 2010: it's... 1990
« on: November 17, 2010, 07:02:05 PM »
I've asked for soul (Prince, Lisa Stansfield) and country (Garth's "Friends in Low Places")

One Foghead asked for "Sinead O'Connor, 'Since you took your love away' " and a while later someone else posted "+1 Sinead O'Connor, 'Since you took your love away' " -- I can't tell if the 2nd person was being snarky or not.

I'm guessing the answer to the question is "no".

Requested Warrant's "Cherry Pie", which would both qualify as not a Katrina and something that would throw some extra life into the set.

I just realized I should have requested Lightning Seeds, though "Pure" might not have been til '91.  I associate that song with my senior year of high school more than most '90 tunes.

It's a longtime frequent flyer, but I love the husk in JN's voice on "Joey."  A most deserved hit, and I wish they'd had more.

Another frequent flyer I'm always glad to hear: "Cuts You Up."  VHM, still holding out my BOS vote.

too frequent for me to get excited, but it *is* a wonderful single, and as I've said before, I think 5 years earlier it would've been a #1. Radio was in a weird mood in '90 and "Joey" didn't get the traction it should've.

HM to Lisa Simpson's crazy be-bop.  But I wish we'd segued into some TMBG more arcane than "Istanbul," great recording though it is.

BOS2 Lisa Simpson -- TMBG is (yes) another frequent flier. VHM, but I'm losing hope for anything earth-shattering here.

Continuing in the same good-but-not-earth-shattering vein, Happy Mondays' reworking of John Kongos into "Step On."  I love dancing to Madchester beats.
