I went Sunday, but missed both of these. I ventured out from the Rooster stage and tried to make it to Elvis Costello's set and realized it was hopeless and a waste of time. Once you have a place yo'd best stay put for the most part, unless you want to spend a good 45 minutes just moving to a new stage.

I agree, Sunday it was a madhouse there. I saw both of 'em as I got to Randy Newman about 15-20 min before his set & was able to get a fairly close position. Patti Smith I got there after Elvis Costello and of course it was packed, so I didn't bother trying to go into the "mosh pit" - I just stood right outside the fence which actually was a pretty good view from the side.
Got to Rooster Stage just before Indigo Grrrls played. I was with a friend who needed to meet her sister and when the Girls came on I was sort of stuck and didn't feel like walking over the same people I walked over to get there, so I sat through their set. I'm not a fan, but I didn't feel like moving at that point. Dave Alvin was fun, as usual, although the mix was bad. was I heard some of Elvis from the back (woods) side. It was a good vantage point: you could see the players from the back and hear well b/c they pumped hsi sound to the nearby Towers of Gold stage. After that I went back to Rooster stage and ended up getting my hands on Friends and Family pass, so I was was able to enjoy Roseanne Cash, Nick Lowe and Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings inside the super duper special penned in area. The big benefit of that is the bathroom access. (Sharon Jones is pretty great, a female James Brown.) I went over to Emmylou Harris right when she ended her set and got back into the Cast an Crew tent. I saw Elvis and Emmylou waiting in the chow line. Nick Lowe, Peter Rowan and Gillian Welch were in there, too. pretty neat.
