Heads up: per AL's Facebook thread, it looks like we may get "Stars on 45" (an uber-HFH by any measure) as our 1981 entry. Indeed, I was perusing the Top Tens for early July in each year and it was generally rather grim.

1980 chimes in with "Steal Away" -- one for the faux-Doobs list.

Is that MM on the backing vocals?

According to AMG, there's no MM on the album though Robert Palmer plays some guitar, and...

"Robbie Dupree's self-titled debut from 1980 features the hit "Steal Away." Dupree was heavily influenced by Michael McDonald-era Doobie Brothers. "

even though Mike wrote "Doobs," I saw MM and was thinking Marilyn Manson?  Marilyn Monroe?  wha..?

to me, the nickname for Michael McDonald will always be "Yammo Be There," thanks to The 40 Year Old Virgin.
