He produced and/or directed 70 films. When asked a few years ago what his secret to longevity was, he said:
"Two large vodkas at lunchtime and three large scotches in the evening. All my doctors have said to me, 'Ronnie, if you would drink less, you'd live a lot longer.' But they're all dead, and I'm still here at 95."
TANC: I recently watched
The Horse's Mouth (1958), which Neame helmed and Alec Guinness starred in (Guinness also wrote the screenplay basing it on Joyce Cary's book). big ideas in the movie about creation and commodification of art, but under seen and under appreciated. I wasn't too fond of the main character at first, but it grew on me. (The Critereon Collection DVD I watched also has a fine short by D.A Pennebaker called Daybreak Express (1953), about the Third Avenue El Train. fans of NYC will love it.
