27 May 2010: yikes, it's... 1998
« on: May 26, 2010, 07:58:52 PM »
I cannot think of a single request to make; among the FB suggestions so far are BNLs, "One Week", Will Smith "Gettin Jiggy Wit it" and Madonna's "Ray of Light". Could be interesting. Or not.

ETA: my off-site training thing was postponed; I would not have minded missing a '98 set. But I'll stick with KPOO today and catch up tonite if you folks make this set sound worthwhile.

Well, pretty mainstream with Barenaked Ladies "It's All Been Done".  But I always enjoy hearing them.

Still in the mainstream with Sheryl Crow, but it's a rarely heard track: "There Goes the Neighborhood".  All things considered, this is a pretty cool track.

interesting: the FB request was for "One week", which KFOG ignored when it was huge everywhere else, preferring to play "It's All Been Done" instead. So of course "IABD" is what turns up here.

Whoa whoa!  This is NTM -- sounds like the Tragically Hip.  Very cool.

HM to Ms. Crow.  The Tragically Hip doesn't quite get one, though I may change my mind.  (
Poets' is a fairly decent song, though IMO the quintessential AAA song and I used to hear it on the Point alllllllll the time)

NTM, too, and I dig it.  No idea who it was.

Pretty rare track from Chris Isaak.  I'd say this is a pretty innovative set for 1998.

And a great big BOS for Lucinda Williams!

I am nothing if not consistent!  I just remember thinking it was odd at the time -- "One Week" was this big hit (Radio Alice was playing it to death) and the KFOG reasoning was... what? "OW" was "too silly"?  too close to being "white rap"? "IABD" meanwhile was retro/Beatle-y.

I liked "Closing Time" when it came out, despite it's rather repetitive verse and chorus, but it's played out now.

Ditto for "Meet Virginia".  I really don't care for Train, which is unfortunate for a KFOG listener (which I hardly am these days).

hehe, I thought this was a new song -- it's played so dang heavily on KFOG's playlist.

Meet Virginia = WOS.  (By this point anything by Train gets a WOS, except for "I Am" or possibly "Free")

Funny clip from "Ellen".  That was a good show.  I didn't recognize the episode, though that woman did a very good Julie Andrews impression.  Anyone know who it is?

And I like Neil Finn, so I'll give "She Will Have Her Way" an HM, though I oughta say I thought this might be Michael Penn when it first started.  Pretty similac.

Most yawn-inducing-of-set for the Foo Fighters.  I misheard this as "I Want You Back".
