The stepfather of actress Meredith Baxter wrote for 'Leave It to Beaver,' 'McHales Navy,' 'Petticoat Junction,' 'Good Times' and won an Emmy for 'Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In' before creating the CBS sitcom 'One Day at a Time' with his late wife, actress Whitney Blake. He was 86.
