Weather Report, written by bassist Jaco Pastorius.  Dig the fretless bass harmonics

I read in an interview that he was quite poor growing up & had a really crappy little AM radio which made the guitars sound like his bass does in this song.  So that was always how the music souded in his head & thus how it came out when he played.

Kind of like finding out that VanGogh & Monet painted the way they did because they actually saw things that way, due to eyesight problems.

BOS "Birdland"

Jaco is God.
Second virtuoso bassist of set: Jaco.

Trivia: what do Steve Morse and Jaco Pastorius have in common (as well as several other members of the Dregs, I believe)? Also Pat Metheny.

"Birdland" is awesome. Didn't Krazy Glue adapt it for a jingle at some point- or did I just imagine that?

I know the connection between Matheny & Jaco, but not anyone else.

And the crystal ball award goes to Mshray or Rod--whichever one called out for Jeff Beck. And wasn't Since We've Ended As Lovers mentioned earlier this week when we were discussing Stevie Wonder?
Let's get right to it.

Well, this was my alternate suggestion to Dave, since I knew he wouldn't be playing the J. Geils...

So what are you thinking of? Jaco played on Metheny's first record, Bright Size Life, but that's not it.
Let's get right to it.

yeah, I know that they played together in the early 70's, but rather doubted that it was with the other guys you mentioned.
