RIP singer Johnny Maestro, 70

Johnny Maestro sang the winter 1958-59 doo-wop great "16 Candles" with the Crests and the 1969 Brooklyn Bridge hit "The Worst That Could Happen."  He was 70:

there were some wonderful B-Bridge singles after "Worst that Could Happen", which got NYC airplay but didn't fare too well nationally. One of my faves: "Your Husband, My Wife".

"Blessed Is the Rain"/"Welcome Me Love" is that most unusual creature, a double-sided hit in which both sides made Top 50 but not Top 40.

They also did a cover of "You'll Never Walk Alone" that was popular in NYC and nowhere else.
