Dave, remember that funny anecdote Leo Kottke told about Country Dick?

Fraid not.  Can you job my memory (, Fezzick)?

For some reason he brought up Country Dick in some other context, and then Kottke (paraphrased) said:

"One time I was in Germany in some ancient ratskeller venue, partially below street level, where the walls in the bathroom were old mortared stones.  And on one of the stones I saw graffitti that read, 'This stone is 1,000,000 years old.  And today is it's birthday'.  And I KNEW that Country Dick Montana had been there."

There's your Oscar Tie-in -- Chevy Chase in Fletch!

I actually watched it the other day.  Big time Beverly Hill Cop rip-off.  Kinda funny.
I think Fletch is hilarious.  I don't see it as a BHC rip-off at all.  Ya gotta like Chevy Chase to enjoy it, that's for sure. A lot.  Of course, the love interest is plenty hot too.

The thing that really kept reminding me of BHC was the synth-laden soundtrack, which, to my ears, worked better in BHC.  Also, the mansion that is the scene of the climax of BHC shows up in the climax of Fletch!  I swear it's the same mansion.

You should probably see Cop Out -- Kevin Smith got Harold Faltermeyer to do the music, and it's apparently an hommage to his own BHC score

I'm also BOS'ing her for getting rid of that annoying Game Over sweeper. (Come to think of it, I don't think I've heard the past week.)

Wow, weird wild stuff.

And what the hell did she say?  Mason and Finn? "Lie for a Lie"?

ETA: from Wikipedia, it's Mason and Fenn, the Fenn being from 10CC.  And the song in question does include Gilmour on vocals but not guitar.  So there you go.

there should be a special circle of Hell for people who do hommages to themselves.

she seems to alternate between that and the one she used today. But she did "game over" yesterday or the day before. I agree it's annoying, tho'.

Ah, OK. I'd guess that Mason is Nick Mason, the Floyd drummer? Yep:
