an all-Canadian set in honor of the Olympics -- a Foghead request, says AL.

Pre-emptive WOS: Rush.  ;)

So what *good* Canadians can we come up with? Joni & Neil, no-brainers both. Eighty percent of the Band. Guess Who/BTO. Leonard Cohen, although probably 80 percent of the Fogheads didn't know squat about him until last year. kd lang, Sarah McLoughlin. Who else you got?
Let's get right to it.

Triumph!  Arcade Fire (will not happen), Bryan Adams, Barenaked Ladies (I hope not), Saga, April Wine, Alanis Morissette, Nanook's All Star Blubber and Jug Band.

Considering KFOG's (and Peter Finch's) history with the BNLs, I think they're a given.  Ditto Alanis.  Now if AL wants to really freak folks out, there's always Paul Anka. Or Robert Goulet.

OMG! Andy Kim's Canadian!

Mother Lode, "When I Die"
Anne Murray, "Snowbird"
Barenaked Ladies, "Jane"
Bryan Adams, "Do I Have to Say the Words?"
Kon Kan, "I Beg Your Pardon"

I'll think of some more suggestions.

Bonus Track (RIP): Pilot, "Canada"
“The choir of children sing their song.  They've practiced all year long.  Ding dong.  Ding dong.  Ding dong.”

I bet we get Loverboy.  I used to hate them. I saw them in concert in 82 and they sort of won me over, at least for that afternoon.

My first thought was "fat chance" -- but AL's proven herself fearless and wacky enuf to play Anne Murray. (I'd go for "You Won't See Me".)  The others... well, lotsa luck, tho' we'll surely get one of BNLs KFOG hits.

k.d. lang's rendition of "Hallelujah" for the Olympics made the Hot 100 this week - only her second charter there!  I could see us getting that, if AL grabbed a copy.

(Saving for another day the question of whether the world needs another "Hallelujah.")

I'll also predict Mashmakhan and the DeFranco Family.

But not Bran Van 3000.  I included them in my blog entry, though.

Looking at the list of Canadian musicians not already mentioned:

Jann Arden - got sick of her one hit, but it was tailor made for AAA, so it's a possibility
Tal Bachman - I can't remember if KFOG played "She's So High", but its time has passed.
Justin Bieber - if I were Canada, I'd send him elsewhere. And no, the US will reject him too. Hit From Hell candidate.
Michael Buble - might be a sleeper entry.
Meryn Cadell - picked up one of her CDs on a whim ~1993 - interesting stuff, but doubtful she'll be included.
Jane Child - oh god I hope so
Tommy Chong - really?
Tom Cochrane - I'm surprised nobody has mentioned him yet. The superior version of "Life Is A Highway".
Celine Dion - I respect Annalisa too much for this, but we all must admit it's a possibility.
Fefe Dobson - in the Deon Ferrus/Tasmin Archer class of African-American women who were basically given one hit then ignored by radio.
Percy Faith - no idea he was Canadian
Leslie Feist - ditto, and a definite possibility
Nelly Furtado - "Turn Off The Light" or "I'm Like A Bird" could get played, although I doubt we'll hear "Promiscuous"
Nick Gilder - doubt it
Robert Goulet - listed as a 'crooner'
Corey Hart - we gotta admit it might happen.
Jeff Healey - I respect him and all, and you'd never know he was blind, but damn his music was boring.
Dan Hill - nope
Terry Jacks - Hit From Hell
Sass Jordan - darkhorse
Chantal Kreviazuk - I have a couple of her CDs, she's great, but never quite broke through here. Married to the guy from Our Lady Peace
Avril Lavigne - you hafta admit it might happen
Gordon Lightfoot - no
Amanda Marshall - I have her one hit album, but she's basically had no US exposure since.
Loreena McKennitt - "The Mummers Dance" was a Hot AC staple, but I don't think it will get played.
Joni Mitchell - didn't know she was Canadian.
Alannah Myles - "Black Velvet" is really the only possibility, but dated.
Aldo Nova - see Alannah Myles, but for "Fantasy"
Daniel Powter - ugh, "Bad Day" was horrible.
Tegan and Sara - that would be interesting, but I doubt it will happen. I hadn't realized they were siblings.
Robbie Robertson - "Somewhere Down"... wait, the Band WAS mentioned. Nevermind
Paul Shaffer - now THAT would be awesome
Snow - that would certainly be different
Skye Sweetnam - Avril Lavigne wannabe
Shania Twain - Ha!
Rufus Wainwright - never quite got the appeal.

And there are bands too:

Alias - nyeah... no
April Wine - "Just Between You And Me" would be cool, but I doubt it will get played.
Artificial Joy Club - "Sick And Beautiful" would be awesome

I'm tired - I'll pick up with the B's in the morning.

browsing that wikipedia list of Canadian bands, I see a few more possibilities:

I'd like to hear the Kings, but we just heard This Beat Goes On/Switchin' To Glide last week, didn't we?

Looks like Men Without Hats is Canadian..  HFH territory

The Payloa$ Eyes of a Stranger, seen on the Valley Girl sdtk would be fine w me.

Steppenwolf -- I think we'll get them

There's a band called Holy Fuck I saw open for Super Furry Animals a couple years ago.  They were loud, fast, and in control, using keybds, analog tape loops and bass and drums to create thumpy thumpy frenetic rock.  It was pretty great.  The odds of hearing them = the odds of AL saying their name on air.

Whatever ends up being played, if somebody (Tinka?) could please archive this I'd be hugely appreciative. I gotta drive out to Tillamook to get a part for a pasteurizer in the AM, and probably won't be home in the evening for the replay. Molto grazie!

Bunchofuckinggoofs - How much you want to bet they're not as interesting as their name?
Bush - apparently a different one, that developed into 'the respected club band Mandela' - I'm guessing we won't hear them
Cowboy Junkies - "Miles From Our Home" was a 1998 KFOG staple, so I suppose a possibility.
Crash Test Dummies - I've almost completely forgotten about them.
Cage The Elephant is listed w/o a link - if they're indeed Canadian they have a chance as "Back Against The Wall" was a New Release Thursday staple for a bit.
Dayglo Abortions - see Bunchofuckinggoofs
Default - doubt it
Delerium - darkhorse
Econoline Crush - had a small alt hit in 1999 called "All That You Are X3" - extremely small chance
Finger Eleven - I suppose there's an outside chance "One Thing" would make it.
Glass Tiger - egad
Honeymoon Suite - would love to hear, but doubt it
Jet is listed but they're Australian
Len - let's hope not
Nylons - the next time 1987 comes up, I'll mention "Kiss Him Goodbye" in my "would love to hear but probably won't" category.
Odds - would love to hear "Someone Who's Cool".
Our Lady Peace - just not KFOG material.
The Philosopher Kings - "Charms" totally fits the KFOG format, but I doubt we'll hear it.
Pursuit Of Happiness - possible, as "I'm An Adult Now" has been on 10@10
Saga - yeah, I can see it.
Sky - another act I'd almost completely forgotten about.
SoulDecision - I doubt we'll hear "Faded"
Sum 41 - a candidate for 10@10 2001 when it comes up
Theory Of A Deadman - I suppose it's a possibility
Three Days Grace - another act that may pop up in a 10@10 in another decade, but probably not today
Tragically Hip - fits the format

I do think one could make a pretty decent 10@10 from the solo artists and bands I've listed.
