BOS Rod

(music geek alert)

There's a slight verbal tic/mistake in EPTASD that you can hear in this section:

I firmly believe that I didn't need anyone but me
I sincerely thought I was so complete
Lo ... Look how wrong you can be

Rod starts to sing the "Look" too early.

Workshop owners, movie makers, and Albert Flasher. Would really like to read what inspired the lyrics for this one someday.

Yeah. It's one of those "you-have-no-idea-what-you're-singing-along-to" songs.

HM to the Grass Roots and to Chicago's "Free."  Holding out my BOS vote for now.
“The choir of children sing their song.  They've practiced all year long.  Ding dong.  Ding dong.  Ding dong.”

OK, now I get it. Albert Flasher owned the Children's Television Workshop!! BIG ups to AL for the clever segue. She's a good 'un, that one!

Sneaky snake!
Chicago sounds great!

And the winner is...The 'Oooo!

Baba O'Reilly, better known to lots of people as Teenage Wasteland. And to one girl I knew in college as Out Here In the Field. She was a little slow.

Neva Chonin told me once how she got to hang out w Keith Moon after one of the Who's Seattle shows.  They rode around in a limo drinking and screaming "Teenage wasteland!" from the sunroof.

One more BOS for Pops and his girls, 'Speck Yo'sef.

ETA: That Grass Roots tune was a bustout, but that's the only one so far as I can tell.

Let's get right to it.

"The Who have a new album! let's see what the first song is... 'Baba O'Riley'?  Very cool!"

actually, AL, most of us at the time said "Baba O'Riley"? Who the fuck is he??

is he related to Bohannon O'Riley?

As I said over the weekend during AT40: sorry, Pops -- I *don't* give a heck about the man with the bible in his hand.

And ... there we go.  BOS to Undisputed Truth, a marvelous production, great lyric, haunting sentiment and delivery.  Orchestrated paranoid '70s R&B did not get better than this ("Back Stabbers" is a close second).

"Mary Don't You take Me On No Bad Trips"

and speaking of trips: uber-BOS5 John Prine, who's a guest on this week's Costello show.
