what was that movie clip earlier?  sounded like Bruce Dern to me, but I'm not placing it in a movie.

Warren Beatty from Reds, I'm pretty sure.

just listened to the set again..top notch!  Gloria is quite the anthem.  I lurve Rush, esp their classic "middle" period, so you know that is a BOS, and I think Fogheads may have voted the same way.  They've opened many a concert w Tom Sawyer, ane for a good example, watch Rush in Rio, a DVD of their concerts down there in 2003? 04?  Many Brazilians lurve Rush, too, and the opening strains of TS prompt this one lady(?) to look to the heavens, clasp her hands in prayer and give thanks. you can see it here at the 2:10 mark:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k7reXTabVlQ

the Styx song, well, what can you say to that bit of moldy cheese?  except it reminds me that I need to put on my leg warmers and go to aerobics class tonight.  ;)  See?  There's always a bright side, even to songs that prompt widespread WOS voting.

BOS: Mission Of Burma
HM: U2
GBO (Good but overplayed): Rush, Rick James

WOS: Loverboy

Would love to hear in a 1981 set, but probably won't: Elton John, "Nobody Wins"

Oh wow - I've never heard this one!  There are quite a few Elton charters 1977-1983 that I don't know b/c they didn't make it onto his GH comps.  I'll YouTube that one in a bit.

Meantime, I'm listening to the replay and wondering if AL sped up "Superfreak" 5-10%.  It sounds perkier than usual.

HOLY F**K!!!

BOS of the month Mission of Burma!

Once I had my heroes
Once I had my dream
But all of that is changed now
They've turned things inside out
The truth is not that comfortable, no

And mother taught us patience
The virtues of restraint
And father taught us boundaries
Beyond which we must go
To find the secrets promised us, yeah

That's when I reach for my revolver
That's when it all gets blown away
That's when I reach for my revolver
The spirit fights to find its way

A friend of mine once told me
His one and only aim
To build a giant castle
And live inside his name
Cry and whispers sing in muted pain

That's when I reach for my revolver
That's when it all gets blown away
That's when I reach for my revolver
The spirit fights to find its way

Tonight the sky is empty
But that is nothing new
Its dead eyes look upon us
And they tell me
We're nothing
But slaves (That's when I reach for my revolver)
Just slaves (That's when I reach for my revolver)
That's when I reach for my revolver
That's when I reach for my revolver
That's when I reach for my revolver
That's when I reach for my revolver

CRAP. I do not believe AL played "Revolver." Or maybe I do--Burma's a Boston band, so she probably has some history with them.  Saw them in '81 opening for Psychedelic Furballs at a disco in Sacto.

Btw, if you like "Revolver" then seek out Academy Fight Song. Another of their anthems from the early 80s. And they're still around--after a lengthy hiatus, they got back together a few years ago, and just released a new record this year. Saw 'em at the Doug Fir in Portland earlier in Nov.

I have a copy of his 1976-1986 Greatest Hits, which I believe has this, along with "Don't Go Breaking My Heart", "I'm Still Standing", "Nikita", and a few others that he seems to have shyed away from, such as "Empty Garden (Hey Hey Johnny)", "Who Wears These Shoes" and "Kiss The Bride". I'm thinking that this was part of his life he'd just as soon forget.
