"I Think We're Alone Now" is, (again, imho) a victim of astonishingly bad over-the-top produciton values that were about 4 yrs out of date.   In different hands this could have been a good-if-not-great cover.

interesting. What year was it made?  the electro-drums sound dated, but they always did~!  :)

The Rubinoos did a *great* cover of it, circa '76 or '77.

At least we were spared Madonna's "Pie".

But I don't care how what you say, Boone's "Sandman" rocks & swings & holds up far better (or at a minimum far less pretentious) than the original.  Awesome instrumental arrangement.

Who would want to cover a song so wretched?

Exactly! That's the better question, imho.

As most of you know by now, this was a soundcheck recording that got released to the fan club & eventually wound up being (stunningly) their highest charting single by far.  All of that is pure fact-is-stranger-than-fiction stuff.

But like Mike says, WTF were they doing playing that horrible song under any circumstances!?  Unlike Cartman or (maybe) Sinatra or certainly heavy metal Pat B., there is no sense of irony here at all, and this is just the polar opposite of the kind of earnestness Vedder can pull off.

I suppose I could Wiki it, but wasn't this intended to be a benefit song of some sort? I would agree that they could have found something better to cover.

Wiki says:

The idea to cover "Last Kiss" came about after vocalist Eddie Vedder found an old record of the song at the Fremont Antique Mall in Seattle, Washington.[8] He convinced the rest of the band to try out the song and it was performed a few times on the band's 1998 tour. The band eventually recorded the song at a soundcheck at Constitution Hall in Washington, D.C. and released it as a 1998 fan club Christmas single.[9][10] The band spent only a couple thousand dollars mixing the song.[11] Bassist Jeff Ament said, "It was the most minimalist recording we've ever done."[10]

It was also on the album No Boundaries: A Benefit for the Kosovar Refugees

And it's the promised Metallica cover. If this is indeed tune #10, then my recollection of Madge's abominable American Pie cover must have been a different set. Which is just fine with me--that version of the song is like fingernails on my internal chalkboard.
Let's get right to it.

Agreed, I wouldn't consider this a hellish cover.

Ooh, I want to play!  (Remember my 'Annoying List' from R&R?  Many of these songs are from there ;))

XXXtina Aguilera et al. - Lady Marmalade
Destiny's Child - Bootylicious
Kelly Rowland - Stole
Fergie - London Bridge
Johnny Lang - Anything's Possible (Not mainstream, but does anyone remember this? Absolutely atrocious.)

It reached #1 in November 1987.

Who's Juan Jajopin?

That's Pat's back-door man. He's been keeping him on the side for *years* now.
Let's get right to it.

BOS to Cartman.  Believe it or not...Hits 106 actually had this version on their playlist for a few weeks.

I'll VHM Pearl Jam too, because for some reason it cracks me up  (:-X) & quite frankly their only song that I've ever been able to tolerate.

Yeah, I used to do that on the R-n-R site too. I actually just joined Pulse Music Board, where there are a lot of the same characters (and amazingly enough, even after nearly a decade, they all act like they're still in high school). I stick mostly to the HAC/AAA board, where it's not quite as obnoxious.

well, okay.  If it came about because of the Fremont Antique Mall then it gets a few bonus points.

Urth, next time you get up to SEA, check this place out.  If it's anything like it was when I was in college, you'll love it.

Welcome back! :)
I agree that they still act like they're in high school.  I still post occasionally on there (as 'Corporate American'), but not nearly as much as I used to.  When I do it's Alt., Hot AC/AAA, and sometimes Off-Topic.
