and heeeeeeeere's yer Fastball -- BOS3 "The Way", one of the great singles of the '90s (assuming it actually was a single; that was a dicey proposition by 98)

Oh. My. Fucking. GAWD!  "History Repeating" -- uber-BOS2 and hope Gaz is still here.

like a lot of stuff in later sets, this is NTM.  I suppose I was catching up on my backlogged 70s rock CD listening tasks when this stuff was current.

I'll BOS Lyle Lovett's ode to the boys in Guerneville.
I saw Lyle at the Mountain Winery this summer from the second row.  Right in front of the back-up singers.  It was really awesome.  Sweetpea Atkinson was very cool up close as were the rest of those stellar singers.

I trust Francine Reed is still one of his backing vocalists? That woman has some amazing pipes.
She is, and I remarked this time that they still to the same schtick, which I'm actually tired of.  They do the duet "What Do You Do" followed by her singing solo "Wild Women Never Get the Blues".  There must be another song she could sing.

Cha-CHING! Glad AL is on my frequency today.

This is one of those songs that I was referring to last week when we were talking about bands that have one song that they'll be stuck playing for the rest of their lives. These guys, as long as they're playing as Fastball, will have to play The Way. Luckily it's a pretty good song, but if I had to play it 200+ times a year for the rest of my life (and play it like I was still having fun doing so), I might get a little tired of it.
Let's get right to it.

I like this song, but I'm not sure I'm on board with it's theme of child abandonment.

that was the Propellerheads featuring Miss Shirley Bassey.

BOS4 Cake -- and I feel compelled to note that at least half this set has been stuff KFOG ignored when it was new.

Yeesh, you're right. I remember hearing her do that back when Joshua Judges Ruth was out, circa '92 or so. And every time I've seen Lyle and the Large Band since then.
Let's get right to it.

9/2/09 - Wednesday!   The year...1998!!

   1.  Brian Setzer Orchestra - Jump, Jive & Wail
   2.  Big Bad Voodoo Daddy - Big Time Operator
(Movie:  There's Something About Mary)
   3.  Smashmouth - Can't Get Enough of You Baby
   4.  Fat Boy Slim - Praise You
(News:  Clinton apology
   5.  Wes Cunningham - So it Goes
   6.  REM - At My Most Beautiful
   7.  Lyle Lovett - Bears
(Ad:  Apple's new iMac)
   8.  Propellerheads with Shirley Bassey - History Repeating (BOS)
   9.  Fastball - The Way
 10.  Cake - Never There

BONUS TRACK:  Bonnie Raitt - One Belief Away

Of the ten songs, only "So it Goes" and "Bears" (and maybe BSO; memory hazy there) were actual KFOG playlist staples in '98, tho' a couple others (like Cake and Fastball) got added a few years (!) later. I don't even think Live 105 was playing the Propellerheads -- that's one of those records I heard about in '98 but didn't actually hear unril later.

Another trip down Hits 106 Memory Lane today  ;D

1.  Brian Setzer Orchestra - Jump, Jive & Wail
3.  Smashmouth - Can't Get Enough of You Baby
4.  Fat Boy Slim - Praise You
8.  Propellerheads with Shirley Bassey - History Repeating (BOS)
9.  Fastball - The Way
10.  Cake - Never There

WOS to Brian Setzer.  Hated it then, hate it now.
BOS to Propellerheads.  Hated it then, love it now.  I remember they kept it in low rotation until the "There's Something About Mary" mix was released then they upped it.

By 1998 Smash Mouth wasn't cool anymore.  That song is not that great, but it does qualify as a good remake.  And is Smashmouth supposed to be one word or two?

As for the others...I could have done without BBVD, Wes Cunningham was good to hear, glad she played a non-overplayed REM track, and Lyle Lovett is decent but she could have found a better song.  In typical Annalisa form she got rid of the worst three off the bat.

funny you should ask; the KFOG website spelled it "Smash Mouth", and they also spelled "Fast Ball" as 2 words. I changed both, tho' you may be right about the former.
