The Peak 8/14/09: Woodstock
« on: August 14, 2009, 07:12:53 AM »
we start with Richie Havens' Freedom -- which how the movie Woodstock starts, too, correct?  Oh well, it's a classic.

then John Sebastian does Darlin' Be Home Soon  -- a beautiful song, just him and his guitar, but JB does this exaggerated "phew" thing right before the last line that sort of sticks out like a sore hip(pie).

Canned Hams Heat

the we get some announcements

The warning that I've received – you may take it with however many grains of salt you wish – is that the brown acid, that is circulating around us, is not, specifically, too good.
Eliot from Harvard: the hitchikers you picked up need those pills right away.
Louis Pitkin(?): your brother is at the Fallsburg police station.

CCR Commotion: it mentions the word "brown," I notice.  No acid ref, though.  Nice quick one, will give us time to get in a longer song (Ten Years After, maybe? ) later on... we hope.

but then Janis Joplin unleashes Ball and Chain. great recording, the organ, the horns sound so good on this.  What a powerhouse!

CSNY's guitars sound a tad out of tune, maybe?

as do their voices -- they were notoriously bad live in those days.

as i've noted before, JB's solo stuff around this time is well worth seeking out.  I saw him the following year at the "Summer Festival For Peace" at Shea Stadium.  And his LP John B Sebastian is just lovely.
