VHM to "Xanadu."  Speaking of bad movies from the period, I showed my friend Andy the Sgt. Pepper movie last night.

I don't recognize this ("Christine"?) song either.  Siouxsie?

betcha didn't know this:

Throughout its numerous lineup changes and textural shifts, the group remained under the leadership of vocalist Siouxsie Sioux, born Susan Dallion on May 27, 1958. She and the Banshees' initial lineup emerged from the Bromley Contingent, a notorious group of rabid Sex Pistols fans; inspired by the growing punk movement, Dallion adopted the name Siouxsie and formed the Banshees in September 1976. In addition to bassist Steven Severin and guitarist Marco Perroni, the band included drummer John Simon Ritchie, who assumed the name Sid Vicious; they debuted later that year at the legendary Punk Festival held at London's 100 Club, where their entire set consisted of a savage, 20-minute rendition of "The Lords Prayer."

Soon after, Vicious joined the Sex Pistols, while Perroni went on to join Adam & the Ants.

Oh my.  Xanadu!  I'm thinking Jeff Lynne had a lot to do with this.

But it's sure not Chick Rock

You're right - I didn't know any of that!

This "Girls' Talk" cover is NTM!
Me too -- is it Linda Ronstadt?

yes!  I love this one.  My first exposure to the song.  BOS Linda Ronstadt.  (never thought I'd type that.)

eta: and I'm positive she cut this before 80, so I think it's chick rock, as they say
Nope, it's from 1980, I just checked, and I was right about the EC covers, this was one of three.

yes, I had my memories mixed up, I stand corrected.  I can recall it around 1980 now.

So it seems like a combo mystery:
lady music from 1980?

yup, that's ELO on backing, er, well, everything.  There's an ELO-only version that KFOG has played during A-to-Z.

the 2, along with Can't Stop the Music are really a trimvirate of horrifying badness -- astounding, really, that they were all produced by major studios with big budgets.

I was gonna add some B-52's and maybe some Donna Summer, but it seems the theme has changed.

I guess it's a Ladies First 1980 theme set.

Or else it's 1980 Chicks & Extremely Androgynous 1980 Males Set.

Hmmm, never thought of Prince as a gender-bender, though he certainly has a feminine voice on many songs.
