New Stevie Wonder?

Renee, on her "rock'n'roll thingy" just now, referred to "the new Stevie Wonder Album we've been playing on the station" -- which is news to me. Anyone heard it?

Release date pushed back, I hear.  Lead single "So What the Fuss" has made the rounds among reviewers, but I haven't heard it yet.  Dismayed by the title -- does Stevie really need to sink to so puerile a gimmick?

KFOG's been playing that (at least I'm pretty sure it's that one- definitely off the upcoming album).

It's OK. Not, like, super innovative or anything. It's just OK. And 'OK' Stevie Wonder is better than... well.... y'know... something shitty, right?

I just happened to notice that Stevie's 55th  b-day (speaking of double nickels) is next Friday, the 13th.

What kind of Hits From Hell theme can we make out of that?

When bad records happen to blind people?

Or maybe Motown HFHs -- "I've Never Been to Me" tops the list. Maybe "Endless Love" too.

"I Just Called to Say I Love You" would seem to be a given.

How about "artists who fucked up on soundtracks" as a theme?  Then we can cover the whole Diane Warren oeuvre, including Aerosmith's "Don't Wanna Miss a Thing."

Followed by her reworking of her Patch Adams ballad "Faith of the Heart" that was used for Star Trek: Enterprise.

(Rod Stewart sang the original version for Patch Adams while Russell Warren did it for Enterprise

Methinks you might be behind a few eps. They resolved that whole bit of nonsense (actually, it wasn't as crappy as it could have been) in the opening ep of this new (and final) season.

In fact, there are only, like, 3 or 4 eps left before it goes away forever.

All this talk of Warren Atrocities & Trek reminds me of this anecdote:

I went to a Star Trek convention a few years back. 2 of the guests were 2 guys from the Enterprise series: the older character actor who played the alien doctor (Phlox) & the British guy who plays the security/tactical officer, Malcolm (the actors name is Dominick Somethingerother and he's so 'in the closet' he probably smells like mothballs- but that's not important right now).

At some point 2 ladies end up onstage with these guys. They give ol' Dominick a hug (and one licks his face- these were 'riot grrls' and made it clear that they'd rather be licking Jolene Blalock- but that's not important right now).

Dominick, clearly glad to have 2 women help him pretend to be straight, throws his arms around both- starts swaying back & forth and begins to (badly) croon "Faith of the Heart". The audience howls.

PS: the truth will out- Dominick told the audience he got his British SAG card doing drag onstage in London for years. As soon as the sentance left his mouth he got that "Oh, crap why did I say that?" look on his face.

PPS: Yes, yes- not everyone who does drag is gay- but c'mon.

I'm talking about this alternate reality empire-centered Archer (now dead) and crew.  You know, the sword through the Earth logo?
