gun hill road was NTM. cute!~
OHW from a band from the Bronx. It spent all of one week in the Top 40 at just about this time of year in '73. Produced by Kenny Rogers, of all people.
I didn't know that!!
I've said it before, but y'all should hear Millie Jackson's cover of this Bobby Goldsboro song. She knocks it out of the park, gives it a totally different (and far less creepy) feel.
I assume she sings from the older woman's POV? or does some old dude sip the julep on his porch and deflower her?
The latter. But she changes the julep to a "cold, cold beer" (I forget what else she changes to make that rhyme). I guess she thought the line as written was dumb too.
PS: What also helps the song is that she gives it new context: it's the last song on her
Caught Up concept album about the dissolution of a marriage amid cheating; and she uses it to, upon having dissolved the relationship, look back on how fresh it was when it first began.
