Pol...POT...Pol...POT!!!

Another BOS vote for the Kennedys, and while we're at it, another for Journey Before They'd Even HEARD Of Steve Perry, Of A Lifetime.

Hey Tink, is that a young Clint Howard as your avatar there? And is he drinking a martini?
Let's get right to it.

iirc, this won the Foghead BOS.

It did in its only other appearance, but surprisingly, in this set it was Runnin' Blue. Which is just fine by me.
Let's get right to it.

Yes, it's Clint as "Balok"  in a Star Trek ep called "The Carbomite Maneuvre." He's drinkning "tranya."

"This is tranya. I hope you relish it as much as I."

    - Balok

Tranya

Tranya was an orange to pink-colored beverage originating from the First Federation, usually served very cold. It was first discovered by the Federation in 2266, when Balok served it to officers of the USS Enterprise. (TOS: "The Corbomite Maneuver")

Tranya would later be a major export of the First Federation. Curzon Dax was particularly fond of the drink, and it was stocked in Quark's on Deep Space 9. (DS9: "Facets")

The tranya that Balok served the crew was, in fact, grapefruit juice, which young Clint Howard absolutely hated. He said in an interview that he had to work very hard at making it look like he actually liked it. "The Comedy Central Roast of William Shatner" implies that tranya can be an addictive beverage and that Balok had developed a bit of a drinking problem. However, this is obviously not canonical.

Check it out: I have the action figures from this episode.  I'm not a trekkie, but when I saw the reissue at a Toys 'R' Us clearance bin (for like $5) I snagged it.  Score!

You weren't wrong. They wrote and recorded it, but it didn't chart here. People! had the US hit.

Go have a couple belts of tranya--you'll feel a lot better.
