The Sound (LA), 4/24/09: 1972
« on: April 24, 2009, 10:42:46 AM »
Tuned in just in time to catch the end of You Wear It Well. Now playing: Conquistador.

Wonder what we missed while we were in the Motor City?
Let's get right to it.

Harry Chapin's signature "Taxi"--a real sledgehammer.
Let's get right to it.

based on the "just played" list it was a pleasant-but-far-from-earth-shattering set, tho' there may have been gems not listed.

Methinks there was something between Honky Cat and Chicago's Dialog, as there's 9 minutes elapsed in there, unless Larry was enjoying it so much he let it play twice, a la Vin Scelsa.

ETA: Yep, Dead Skunk and Mama Weer All Crazee Now both failed to register on the 'just played' machine.

And man, they are *fast* at getting the setlist up on their site:

Quote
4/24 - 1972

Ventura Highway - America
Reelin' in the Years - Steely Dan
Dead Skunk - Loudon Wainwright III
Honky Cat - Elton John
Dialouge (Pt. I and II) - Chicago
Heart of Gold - Neil Young
School's Out - Alice Cooper
You Wear it Well - Rod Stewart
conquisador - procol harum
Taxi - Harry Chapin

Except they got one song wrong--Larry musta called an audible and slipped the Slade in in place of Alice Cooper.
Let's get right to it.

I always get stuck on the line about the $2.50 fare - in NYC today, the meter *starts* at $2.50.

.. and the order is off: they started w Reelin' by SD.  I'm listening to it now.

Haley must have trained both Dave's former intern and Larry's current one. ;)

so, if you venture a highway, you may find a dead skunk, or else a (feral) honky cat.  Better to take a taxi, conquistador!

wow, what an groovy epic song Chicago's Dialouge (Pt. I and II) is, full of early 70s feel-good posi-vibes.

hggrz!

BOS to lead vocalists Terry Kath & Peter Cetera (when he was good) and a tap of the spit valve to Jerry Pankow and the other horny horns.

it's even better when the intern spells "dialogue" correctly! (every day's 4/20 in LA) "I also hope to keep a steady high"
