Ha! Beat me to it... just when I was saying I never hear promos anymore, there was one in the middle of the Marathon.

Just heard the promo for the second time this morning -- might it be that ratings are down since Dave left? People might be getting out of the 10@10 habit, since they know it's just gonna be another rer- er, "classic".

You might have something. True, we're a bunch of jaded mofos when it comes to 10@10, but I honestly feel less immediacy with the "classics"--no birthday club, no timeliness of clips, just a random set pulled out of the archive with no present-day context. Ben Fong-Torres column last weekend said KFOG seemingly hadn't suffered a drop in ratings after Dave's retirement, but I have to wonder about that, at least with regard to 10@10 itself. I know we've all been saying this, but I really hope Dave gets back in the driver's seat soon (not the Sniff 'n the Tears one). And I bet Tony Salvadore feels the same way.
Let's get right to it.

Indeed. I'm sure the Morning Show's ratings have held up; as beloved as Dave was, there's really noplace else for that audience to go for relatively smart banter in the morning*. Who are they gonna switch to? Sarah & No-Name? Fernando & Greg? But 10@10 may have taken a hit; if nothing else there may be casual Fogheads who assume 10@10 is gone because Dave retired.

* Speaking of banter, there was a conversation this week about some guy who got a degree in music and (as happens in that situation) had to do a performance in front of a panel of professors who took notes as he played.  And Renee immediately blurted out "Oh! Just like Flashdance!" And Greg replied sarcastically "oh, yeah, Renee, JUST like Flashdance..." -- you could just about hear him rolling his eyes. LOL!

Last Friday morning I had two mtgs, one in the City & one in Oakland...at 10:00, at Zhone, which is directly opposite the Oracle Arena.  So at 9:45 I was ensnared by the traffic jam caused by the OPD funeral processions, and figured as long as I'm just sitting here watching police cars whiz by me on the shoulder, I'll call KFOG to see if they'd care for an on-the-ground update, and it will be an excuse to ask them directly about Dave's status. So I did.

Me:  I was wondering when Dave is going to resume doing the 10@10?
Webster:  So are we!
(and I think I herad Peter in the bacground say "It's still being discussed".)

Anyway, off to another 10:00 mtg, have fun without me.

Yeah, after all the promises of 10@10 continuing once Dave got settled, to hear that there are things still to be "settled" is kind of distressing.  He's still pictured on their airstaff page, so he hasn't been written out entirely (of course he's still filling about 12 hours of programming a week by my count). And they still have his last show posted in its entirety at the bottom of the Morning Show page, which tells me they know he's still got a following among their listeners.

"Don't Forget to Dance" sounding quite nice today.  VHM.

This one's been a classic twice--once in August of 2005, and repeated on July 5, of '07. No idea when it first aired.

KSWD doesn't look any better today (their "now playing" engine says Legs by ZZ Top) so I'm gonna pass on that and stay here, I think.

WOS to what I assume is Marillion, singing about "problems."  This one needs to be sent a marillion miles away.

Little Steven celebrated his show's 7th anniv last nite by playing clips of memorable guests, one of whom was Ray Davies, who told a story about being on Hullabaloo! back in the day -- they made him put chewing gum behind his front teeth to obscure the gap, which the producers found unseemly.
