Austin "Bob" -- week of 3/23/09
« on: March 23, 2009, 08:07:52 AM »
Since we rarely get to hear these sets, I think a weekly rather than daily thread is a better idea.

Monday 3/23/09: 1986

Jermaine Stewart -We Don't Have To Take Our Clothes off
Bangles -Manic Monday
Miami Sound Machine -Bad Boys
Dream Academy -Life In A Northern Town
Outfield -Your Love
Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark -(Forever) Live And Die
Level 42 -Something About You
Fabulous Thunderbirds -Wrap It Up
Heart -These Dreams

OMFG - somebody FINALLY plays Jermaine Stewart's fab "WDHTTOCO".  Kudos on that and the OMD.

Tuesday 3/24/09: 1982

Kool & The Gang -Get Down On It
Tommy Tutone -867-5309/Jenny
Chicago -Hard to Say I'm Sorry
Hall & Oates -Did it in a Minute
Billy Squier -Everybody Wants You
Juice Newton -Love's Been A Little Bit Hard
Eddie Money -Shakin'
Bertie Higgins -Key Largo
Joan Jett -I Love Rock 'N Roll

Holy crap -- Bertie Higgins' "Key Largo"! and the H&O, K&tG, Chicago and Juice Newton are all ATBBs.

Wednesday 3/25/09: 1970

Edison Lighthouse -Love Grows (Where My Rosemary Goes)
Guess Who -American Woman
Jackson 5 -I'll Be There
Norman Greenbaum -Spirit In The Sky
Neil Diamond -Cracklin' Rosie
Mungo Jerry -In The Summertime
Shocking Blue -Venus
Badfinger -Come And Get It
Simon And Garfunkel -Bridge Over Troubled Water

a very "pop" set -- and that's a *good* thing, as Martha would say.

I bet there were days in 1970 when I heard every song on this list on WABC.

Indeed. And Dan Ingram would intro that first one as "Love Grows in my Rosemary's Nose". They were all Top Ten singles, and maybe even Top Five.

Couldn't resist checking, since I have a Db of this stuff.  Badfinger was the lowest at #7, Edison Lighthouse was a #5, Mungo Jerry & Norman Greenbaum were #3's, and the other five were all chart-toppers.

Yes, nationally (I had already looked) but I'm thinking the Badfinger did better than that on the local WABC survey; don't have time to go thru these week-by-week right at this moment:

You could lose several days looking at all the surveys there...

The Tara Kemp and Timmy-T are impressive rarities.

The Nelson is an unimpressive rarity.
