Mahvin's asking for a witness!

Never noticed how similar that song is to "Ain't That Peculiar."

One of my very favorite intros: the chords preceding "More Love."

heh, I just posted the same thing --- !

just got here. but I heard "Can I Get A Witness," and the riff sounds a lot like "Ain't That Peculiar,"

Am I right? Can I get a witness...?

Gaz already got your back on that one:

Can one of you record this set to CD tonight?

I'll give it a try, but no guarantees--I haven't tried recording from a web stream before. Someone want to provide a backup?
Let's get right to it.

So no quiz today--just call in and pick a Temptations bonus track. We're in the ads now, and I'm on the RadioTime stream, so we'll see what happens. Not holding my breath.

ETA: Jeez, just realized that somewhere in the posting flurry of this morning, I had my post #7777.

And a personal gripe: in the stream ad for Viridian wines, the announcer consistently mispronounces Willamette--it's will-LAM-it, dammit!

"Get Ready" woulda been my choice too.  At least the stream's working fine this time.

Well, today it's airing on the stream no trouble, at least via RadioTime. Temps, Get Ready.

At least they don't say Or-e-GONE instead of Or-e-GUN.  When I was in college in Tacoma one of my Oregonian friends professed to totally hate Steely Dan, simply because they blew that in "Don't Take Me Alive"

Mispronouncing Willamette is a pretty common thing for anyone not from Oregon, but you'd hope the winery's ad agency would have put a pronouncer in the script. Pronouncing Oregon the way Fagen does is how the locals can tell if you're from the East coast.

And there are tons of place names up here taken from Native American words that are completely non-intuitively pronounced: for instance my fave: Champoeg. Looks like "cham-poag", but it's actually "sham-POO-ey"--the g is silent.
Let's get right to it.

That's largely because many of those place names were first written down on maps by French fur traders.  Have you heard of the small town across the river in WA called Pe Ell?  It has the precise opposite etymology - it was named after a trader named Pierre, and that's how the natives pronounced his name.  (I know this because my old dorm roommate married a girl form Pe Ell, and I was a groomsman there).

3.  Brenda Holloway - When I'm Gone

5.  Tammi Terrell - I Can't Believe You Love Me

glad Gaz finally heard these, tho' I find it hard to believe he's never gotten them on Felix Hernandez's shows. Tammi was so wonderful, and so sad that her solo stuff never took off (and that her later Marvin duets weren't even her).

And the Brenda Holloway was a bustout. Despite my hopes otherwise, it was the only one, but there were several other that had only appeared a time or two before--the Stevie and the Smokey songs. The Four Tops tune had appeared in the DB three times previously (but two of those were classics), and Tammi had shown up in four previous sets, all of which were Motortown Revues. (Dare I say that whenever Dave has done a Motortown Revue, they're always fairly self-indulgent. And they're always great.)

Queue the waterworks? Motortown review making the replay now. Must have missed the 80's. Caught 76, 69 and now this. Can't imagine the XMAS card led the set at 7am.

Yesterday's dreams today are sorrow
Just like your love, girl, fading away
Yesterday's love won't last till tomorrow
I know you're leaving, but what can I say?
Oh (oh) wish that I could find a way
To make you stay; I've got to prove to you
That I love you, I need you, oh how I need you
Don't go (don't go) don't go (don't go)
If you go, don't you know
You're gonna leave me with...

Yesterday's dreams though gone & behind us
They're lonely reminders of plans that we made
Yesterday's plans today gone forever
But they're locked here inside me & they never will fade
Although (although) you may go, time will show me
Dreamin' still, & I always will
'Cause I love you, I need you, oh how I need you
Don't you go (don't go) don't you leave me, baby (don't go)
Baby don't you leave me (don't go) please don't leave me
(Don't go) here with yesterday's dreams

Although (although) you may go, time will show me
Dreamin' still, & I always will
Yesterday's dreams are a small pile of ashes
With one burning hope that hangs on
Sharks bleed teal.

I made a big mistake, honey
I said, I said goodbye
Oh, oh baby
Ever, ever, ever since that day
Now, now all I wanna do is cry, cry
