Novelty Acts
« on: October 10, 2008, 02:00:19 PM »
Not to pick on Gaz and his fine bloggage (http://babyivebeenthinking.blogspot.com/), but his dismissal of The Ramones and The Sex Pistols as novelty acts in a recent blog got me wondering:  "What other fan bases can we piss off by calling their fave artists "novelty acts"?

My first nomination, which occurred to me during a discussion with a younger member of my softball team last night, is:

AC/DC

Also considering:

KISS (kind of obvious)
The Talking Heads

Let's not forget Devo (famously called "KISS for Kollege Kidz" by one critic) and GWAR.

Blues Brothers - this one became apparent after discussion of today's 10at10 bonus track.

.. Steve Cropper, Donald "Duck" Dunn, and Lou Marini notwithstanding -- except Lou was dangerously close to being a novelty when he came out of the tomb to play the King Tut sax solo when Steve Martin did the song on SNL:
