Gotta BOS the Kinks too.

I don't feel safe in this world no more, I don't want to die in a nuclear war, I want to sail away to a distant shore....

Looks like Dave's bookending the set with two of the biggest horn bands of '70.
Let's get right to it.

Haha, more people recognized Laura Nyro here than in all of KFOG's phone-in listeners!

Amen. Dave is waxing poetic about Laura Nyro, so I guess we know which song HE voted for as BOS. Me, too.

I probably should get some work done, but any post-set listening for anyone?

Hell, I was one of those who voted it BOS. So that takes the phone-in numbers down to one.

I'm lost on Friday without CGSS.  But I'll do CBS-FM with ya, if you're willing.

You got it, though I may not be able to post much.  (My work on TIME.com this afternoon is all financial crisis, all the time; I need a break from the relentless depression of it all.)

OMGWTFLOL!!! BOS5 Laura Nyro feat LaBelle, "Up on the Roof".  Glorious.

I haven't looked yet, but I think we can safely say this is a bustout. Major league BOS.

An aside to this, I just finished reading "There's Always Magic In the Air: The Bomp and Brilliance of the Brill Building Era" by Ken Emerson. A little dry at times but still an interesting read, but it follows the whole Brill Building/1650 Broadway cast of songwriters from their youth all the way to about 1970, with lots of info on Aldon Music (Don Kirshner) and Hill and Range (another big publisher), too. Man the research that must have gone into this is just amazing. Leiber and Stoller, Doc Pomus and Mort Shuman, Carole King and Gerry Goffin, Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil, Jeff Barry and Ellie Greenwich, Bacharach and David, Sedaka and Greenfield, they're all here. Mike, Gaz, I particularly recomment this to both of you if you haven't read it already.

Well, at least you didn't overspend! Quite possibly the best deal you'll ever get. Hope you like!

ETA: And here's a bit of trivia for MShray that I learned from this book: Did you know that Mike Stoller and his wife were passengers on the Andrea Doria when it sunk? Man, what popular music would have missed if he'd gone down with the ship!
