I don't know anything about Harmon Leon's stand-up act (tho' the commenters on his blog are pretty unkind) but this entry, talking abbout being interviewed on a horriffic "Morning Zoo" radio show in Atlanta, is pretty dead-on.

http://blog.sfgate.com/hleon/2011/10/18/the-worst-morning-radio-show-in-america-project-9-6-1-atlanta/

Reminded me of the awful radio show that Stan woke up to on South Park recently...

Well, Ralph Barbieri may have Parkinsons, but he's also kind of a dick, per Ben Fong-Torres' run-down of the Radio HOF ceremonies:

Well, he was a dick long before he had Parkinsons, so I can't imagine having a disease would change that. At least not in his case.
Let's get right to it.

A few more AAA live sampler CDs tracklistings are out.  Sadly, a lot of the usual suspects (Mat Kearney, Scars on 45, Iron & Wine, etc) make repeat appearances.

Cities 97 (Minneapolis):
http://www.cities97.com/pages/Cities97SamplerVolume23.html
This one has a few of the bands' "other" tracks (i.e. "Don't Gotta Work It Out" by Fitz/Tantrums, "Poison & Wine" by Civil Wars, "Only the Wine" by David Gray) & I'm excited to see Lissie on here, but there still a lot of repeats.  But $25.97?!?!?!?  I understand they're trying to discourage the "black market" but...wow.  They're making a limited # of these available online, but I think I'll pass, especially since it comes out to ~$33 with shipping.

103.7 The Mountain (Seattle):
http://www.1037themountain.com/pages/11327385.php
Also mostly underwhelming.  Of note: at least the Sarah McLesbian track (Adia) is one that to my knowledge has not appeared on previous AAA samplers (or at least not very many times; otoh "Angel" has about 10 appearances between them all.)  That and the Bob Schneider & Burned tracks may make it worth it, since it's literally half the cost of Cities 97's.

So far, all of this years' are disappointing.  It hasn't been this bland and/or overlapping since the 2004 series.  Maybe KBCO's will be better...they usually do a pretty good job.  I wonder what the future of these is going to be.  The proceeds to go charity but aside from the CDs from the Borders going out of business sale these are my only CD purchases this year & I can't imagine that the already dying-out hype of these is something that would translate too well to digital downloads (i.e. are people going to look forward every year to making an online donation and downloading a set of live tracks from the station's website?  Especially since you can already stream many of their performances for free?)

Just heard on Oldies 103.7, "Raindrops Keep Fallin' On My Head" followed by "Love Shack".  Jarring.

NYC's 98.7 Kiss-FM, one of those "Old School and today's R&B" station (what SF's Kiss-FM was like before they went all-Old School) has finally begun streaming after years of refusing to do so for reasons never explained

http://www.987kissfm.com/kissguide/

What's good about this is: now West Coasters can finally hear Felix Hernandez's "Rhythm Revue" oldies show on Sundays from 9a-3p Pacific time. He's pretty wonderful and will be a welcome choice on Sundays when Casey's '80s chart is particularly lackluster.

Any idea how many stations use "Kiss" as their on-air moniker regardess of their actual call letters? More than a few, safe to say.

yeah it was one of the early radio station "names" -- and the one in NYC was the first, I think, dating back to '80 or '81. And it remains one of the most popular.

FYI, from 3 to 5:30 on KPOO today, Johnny Brooklyn is doing his annual festival of food songs. Pass the savoy truffles, mah man.

NTM: Jerry Lee Lewis, "Milkshake Mademoiselle" (!)

This weekend WFNX/Boston (streaming at www.wfnx.com or on iTunes Radio under "alternative") is doing a flashback weekend.  Real good stuff so far.  This station must have been where AL got a lot of her inspiration from...I'm hearing a lot of songs from her sets in here.  The past three have been Heaven 17 - "Let Me Go", X - "Blue Spark", and Pursuit of Happiness - "I'm an Adult Now".

Big news: KGO fires Burns, Taliafero, Gil Gross... they'll be "all-news" from 2pm-midnite starting next week. Cumulus strikes again.
