Agreed. '83 is a good music for me anyways- but that was a particualrly good start.

Oh, damn.  Didn't want '80s today.  I don't want synths and drum programming.  Anyone know offhand who was winning R&B Grammys in the early '80s besides Jacko?

Did Vanessa Williams's vapid comments on education actually strike anyone as useful?  I'm glad to see that wretched ceremony become as outmoded as washing laundry on rocks.

So I gues that Tears For Fears did nothing for you?  But "Pale Shelter" is one of the quintessential tunes of the genre for me.

The acoustic guitar strum in the middle of "Der Kommissar"'s solo suddenly strikes me today as a nod to the original "Venus."  I don't know why I think that.

not without Googling, and I've no time to go searching. God, I SO have no use for the ATF version of "Komissar"...

Usually I like the song, as I do most of their material.  But indeed, today it felt cold and mechanical.

Yeah, I don't know why Dave won't play the original 'Der Kommisar'.

Talking Heads would be nice, or Psych Furs. Or anything off Let's Dance that's not China Girl.
Let's get right to it.

Lamest of Set: "Too Much Blood" by the Stones. Yeah, yeah. Ate her piece by piece. Whatever, Mick.

Jeez, I forgot the Stones even released a record in 83--Undercover, yes? I don't think I've EVER heard this on the radio before, in 1983 or since. A bust-out for 10@10?

To my knowledge Dave has never played any B-52's off the Whammy! album, even though the first 3 tracks got radio play on new wave stations.  "Legal Tender" is one I'd kill to hear, (#81 that year).

"too Much Blood" indeed. Not my fave Stones but it gets points for being underplayed -- maybe even a breakout/Gomer?
